Hi all,
Quite a few months ago I decided to jump on the bandwagon of dealing massive DPS from a distance and rolled a MagSorc. Specifically, I based my build on the
Yolo Wizard. Let's just say the transition from a DW StamBlade has been less than smooth. I haven't enjoyed myself as much as advertised and it's not because of my preference for making things close and personal. I would appreciate it if you could share your insights on the two issues below.
1) Choice of staff on aoe and single target bar
One of the things that caught my attention in the Yolo Wizard as well some other builds I considered is the staff allocation to the front and back bar:
- Front bar (single target abilities) - lightning staff; and
- Back bar (aoe abilities) - inferno staff.
My understanding is that this is done because damage of aoe abilities scales off the current bar and not the impact bar. Is that correct? Also, does the effect of having a lightning/inferno staff equipped on abilities like Elemental Blockade change after the bar swap? For example, if I cast Elemental Blockade on my aoe bar which has a destruction staff equipped will it retain the original fire effect or change to the shock effect once I swap bars? The animation seems to suggest it retains the burning effect.
2) Heaving weaving for magicka regen
Heavy weaving feels unnatural for me on my MagSorc. I think this might be because I got too used to how it works on my DW StamBlade - charge, cancel and have a chunk of stamina restored at once. In comparison, heavy weaving on a lightning staff, which assuming the logic above is correct should be the staff I'd weaving on most of the time, feels very different since the basic attack is a channel rather than a single-hit ability. Not seeing a chunk of magicka get restored makes me think I'm not restoring anything from heavy weaving or perhaps that I'm cancelling too early.
How do you guys weave on your lightning staves? Regularly (i.e. heavy attacks of the same length) or irregularly (i.e. length of heavy attack changes depending on the particular situation)?
Thanks for your insights!
