Familiar music?

so, I was just listening to gustav holst's "the planets" suite at work, when I came across this little snippet - at about 22:05 - tell me if that music doesn't sound eerily familiar...

skip a little beforehand, you'll notice some other slightly less precise but still familiar tunes...

I'm sure I'm not the first to come across this, but this is the first time *I've* had the realization...anyway...

if nothing else, the music is pretty good - especially the beginning (most people have heard the "mars" theme somewhere before - featured pretty significantly in "gladiator" if anyone was wondering)

Jeremy Soule (the composer of most TES soundtracks) quite heavily enjoys getting inspired by other compositions. I recommend checking out his other works, too, e.g. the main theme of Quidditch World Cup he 'composed', formerly known as Lacrimosa by Mozart.

Edit: Mighta been a different piece by Verdi. I'm not very fluent in classical music.

yah - I notice the occasional john williams in there, and iirc, there's even a snippet of something that became part of the battlestar galactica old tv theme in there as well - can't remember who composed that
