With every update, ESO gets closer and closer to what could be called a "complete" Elder Scrolls game in terms of character customization and gameplay options. We are, alas, still missing some (imo) critical features like spellcrafting, jewelcrafting, necromancy or better were-creatures and vampires, but I am confident those will come in a not-so-distant future. We already had a new Class in the last Chapter, maybe another one is in the pipes... So I started to think... what else could they add in future chapters? Two answers came to my searching mind, namely new races and new weapons.
There aren't so many races that could be added to the playable ones.
Maormer could be the most obvious option. They are present and well in the ESO timeframe, have their own culture and all.
The Nagas could be another option. We don't know much about them yet, and if Murkmire is introduced, we'll certainly learn more about them.
Other than those, ... I see four possible paths to be explored
- Adding subraces to the existing ones
This could lead to the introduction of Colovians, Niboneses, and Imperial of Akaviri descent, for example, and also of the Reachmen, who are a special strain of Bretons. Maybe other types of Khajiiti could also be added.
- The Goblin-ken
Goblins, Riekr, Rieklings and maybe even Ogres could be made playable? This seems unlikely, but not impossible in my opinion...
- Looking at other beastfolk
The Minotaurs seem to be an option, since some of them were allied with Reachmen. Galrus Grimhorn is also an example of "civilized" Minotaur, although he wasn't fleshed out at all, alas. The Imgas could be another option if we ever visit Falinesti. Lamias are unlikely, in my opinion, because their inability to wear leg armor and feet armor renders them difficult to balance, from a gameplay viewpoint. For the same reason, I think the Sload are extremely unlikely. Same with the centaurs. Dreughs being essentially marine after their Karvinianism, I don't see them added as playable, either. Similarly, Harpies can fly so I don't think they'd be feasible.
- The Faeries
Few other these can be considered a candidate for a new race. The Nereids, and Leimenids, are maybe the least unlikely. We have the Nymphs, unlikely for PEGI reasons. I really don't think the Whispmothers would be feasible. Imps can fly, so I don't see them added. And Spriggans can't wear leg or feet armor, and are probably bound to some tree or forest. So nope either.
Lilmothiit were apparently not around anymore in the ESO timeframe, and Falmer weren't around either...
Now to the weapon types.
I think the following options could be interesting to explore
- Poleweapons (Spear/halberds)
Of course spears. I miss them since Morrowind.
- Crossbow
Slower but more powerful than the bow.
- Sling
A one-handed ranged physical option.
- Cestus/claws
Fore fighting with bare hands, but without having your hands bare.
- Scepter/wand
A one-handed magical option.
- Talisman
A magical tanking option, basically a magical shield-replacer. Maybe also a way to make jewelcrafting even more interesting.
- Shakram/boomerang
Throwing weapons that come back. I think they'd be easier to iplement than throwing weapons that don't come back like darts, shurikens, throwing knives and throwing axes.
- Flail
Especially useful in Ebonheart taverns.
So... what do you think on the topic?
