How did Minotaurs get wrapped up with Hircine?

In addition to the Horns of the Reach dungeons and backstory, we have Minotaurs guarding the unicorn for Hircine's Oblivion quest. It seems to me there's a history there. Did some of the anti-Minotaur propaganda drive lots of them to Hircine worship or possibly the other way around?

Except Minotaurs are the descendants of St. Alessia and the demigod Morihaus Breath-of-Kyne. Hircine was never involved in their creation.

The Alessian Order happened. Minotaurs had always been treated differently and with suspicion. But when the Alessian Order arose they painted the Minotaurs as monsters and they were driven out of cities and towns.

If you look at many barbaric and underdeveloped societies in Tamriel they often turn to worship of daedra in some fashion or another. The Chimer, later Ashlanders, the Orcs, the Reachman and Minotaurs. All of them have a common thread of being at some point, or still are very underdeveloped and often times ostracized by the rest of Tamriels societies. My guess is that Hircine took a liking to the Minotaurs since they were very much a representation of Manbeasts. Having the Daedric Prince of the Hunt on your side while living out in the forests of Tamriel can be quite useful. So their relationship is probably very similar if not parallels the Orcs and Malacath.

Those were single individuals though, not enough to make up an entire culture.
