I've been thinking of this forever!!!! Oblivion MQ is the best plot. Sean Bean as Martin Septim (has to be) and the main characters in the MQ are good for diversity, ex. Baurus played by a POC

just do better than the Hobbit

I'd rather have Guillermo del Toro or J.J. Abrams directing than Peter J.

I hope it's not some Live-Action fiasco like that WoW movie if it does happen... But, If it is as well animated as the cinematic trailer that forced me to break down and become a gamer again then, Yes.

Blizzard tried it with WOW...didn't work.

    Fantasy books into movies work.
Online MMO's don't work. If you don't play the game you have no clue about the lore.

For some reason Bethesda only will do it if it was Peter Jackson. I don't really care, I just want it made and made well.

Jackson managed to make LOTR work without needing to read the books.
There really is no reason why a fantasy game series cannot be made into a self-contained movie.

Better make an animated cartoon about Oblivion or Skyrim story. Seriously, TES series has so much story and lore - you could make a series about it. Taking in to account how popular Skyrim was/is people would definitely be hyped...

LOTR was based on The Hobbit though. It was a sequel released in 1968. That's a lot of time for people of several generations to read.

They should probobly either give the games a wide berth, or just don't show any events directly from the game(e.g. have the Skyrim civil war, but not the battle of Whiterun or be from the Dragonborns perspective), if they do make a movie.

I never read a LotR book yet I got engrossed into the films. It all depends on how the world is introduced in the film.

Yeah, I'll agree with that. LOTR didn't assume people knew.

I have the full 6 dvd collection of both The Hobbit and LOTR and have watched them several times.

Scenario is a really big question here. Well, for me it sure is. If only someone like Michael Kirkbride will take the work... But more likely it'll be something like Star Trek: Discovery or new Star Wars episodes from Disney, so hell no. There are a lot of *** movies based on games already.

The elder scrolls was an rpg long bbefore an mmo. TES series befor TESO was super popular. Warcraft before WoW was popular, but not nearly as popular as skyrim, oblivion or morrowind. It is TOTALLY doable.

Oblivion into a movie would be legendary. Then again, so would skyrim.

Only SW and Star Trek ;) (Though I've had plenty of Trek fans tell me he "saved" it...)

J.J. does better when the script/story is on a smaller scale. Making it more of a personal one-off story for the audience may actually work in his favor for a Elder Scrolls movie. Unfortunately, Hollywood loves sequels, so it'd have to be a 500 million dollar extravaganza or else.

Guillermo, on the other hand, thrives in that environment. His ES movie would most likely be the closest to bringing Tamriel to life on the big screen. I would love to see his designs for the mer. The only drawback I could see is the choice of actors. You know Ron Perlman's gotta be in it :#

Seriously? It took longer to watch Peter Jackson's Hobbit trilogy than it did to read the book. And I won't even catalog all the ways he blasphemously departed from the story in both LoTR and the Hobbit.

Big difference. MMOs tend to be too much to squeeze into a film. Something like skyrim, or oblivion, or morrowinds main story would be very easy. And the reason most video game movies have flopped miserably is because one reason. The producers and writers never stick to the lore or the story line of the games -EVER-. Perfect example. Doom.

TBH I think it would have been better if SW8 still had JJ instead of Johnson, yet alone for not finishing off character arcs with stupid one liners. Consinstency and stuff. But who am I to judge.

Anyway, I don't think a TES movie would turn out to be what some might hope for. Expectations would be too high anyway.

And if I can trust google, lotr/hobbit and WoW movies had giant budgets, 93-250 million dollars each. I'd rather see Bethesda invest money into making a bug free TES 6.

Actually I would rather Peter Jackson didn’t.

Now don’t get me wrong, he’s a very good director. But his adaptations of LotR felt quite generic fantasy.

The Elder Scrolls has its generic fantasy tropes, of course. But I’d like to hope a film of Elder Scrolls would include some of the more “out there” concepts of the lore that would likely be better served by a different director.
