Llodos: a person's name or a place name?

Runhent

Actually, the question concerns the Llodos plague. Is Llodos the one who created it? Or is this a place from where this plague came from? Or just the plague name itself?
The question is caused not only by idle curiosity but also by the desire to translate this accurately.

Its just the name of the plague. The creator was named Merdyndril. It originated in Deshaan (we don't know exactly where), and there is no place called Llodos.

When creating a new plague, it is important to properly name it. You want to name it so that it sounds like a place, but isn't a place. This does two things. First, it makes it exotic. People are more fearful of the plague from far away than they are the one from just down the road. Second, it prevents anyone from checking with someone at that place about the plague, which eliminates a whole lot of back story that needs to be put into place. Avoiding the second part is really important if the plague was never actually there.

Most people, given a suitably cryptic name, will fall back to trying to stay away from anyone who has it, rather than trying to figure out where it came from.

Just a free tidbit from Lordrichter's Guide to World Domination.

We know the lab where the plague was developed and weaponized, but not where it originated. Not going to spoil the lab location as its part of a quest. But it is known by two names....
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

It most likely is a word in Dunmeris that we don't know the meaning of, just like we didn't know the meaning of Corprus before ESO.

Also, I looked at the list of Dunmer names:
    • Llo is the first part of eight names: Lloden, Llodus, Llonas, Llondryn, Llonvyn, Llothan, Llovyn, and Llovys.
    • And dos is the second part of seven names: Dondos, Drodos, Ildos, Aldos, Tolendos, Toldendos, and Fedos.
So it may be a name...

Also worth remembering that in Arena and Daggerfall, most names were produced by mashing a prefix and a suffix together. So, taking names from later releases and ripping them apart like this does have some legitimate value. It's not just, "oh, if take a hacksaw to Steve here, I can get the spare parts I need for that flesh atronach project."

Corprus is one word :( And we know its meaning (skin blight in Ald Chimeris). It's like some cholera, just lower-cased corprus, that's not the case.
