Race Change WARNING!

This service does not state you need the Any Race upgrade to change race to that of a different alliance, but it DOES require that "upgrade". Scam. Avoid. I feel cheated.

Uh... that's how things work. If you dont' have the upgrade, you can only change to the race of your current alliance. Not sure why you thought the Race Change token would get around that.

I agree that is how things should work. However, it takes ZOS all of one sentence to explain it on the Crown Store page. So why not include that one sentence?

It's the same thing with the bankers and merchants. You could state there is no Guild Bank option, and you could state there are no repairs. One sentence for each, or even just revising the current descriptions.

Why not include the specifics? I know what I think. But I'm cynical.

Thank you for the PSA! I was about to purchase a race change to go from my Dunmer to a Redguard.

I have only been playing ESO for a few months and I don't PVP so Alliances mean nothing to me. I would never have thought that I could only change to Nord or Argonian after paying for a race change.

You just saved me from wasting my crowns.

Hey! I can use this cheaper method to get around paying for an upgrade!

If you think ZOS did not consider that possibility...you need to think more.

Actually, I wasn't trying to get around anything. I just wanted my Dunmer to be a Redguard and since I never PVP, Alliance is a useless concept that didn't even come to mind. I know for some of you that have been playing the game for years this is all "common sense" but for new players things can be different. At any rate I'm grateful to the original poster for giving me a heads-up so I didn't waste my crowns. This information should be included in the Crown Store.

Wait, so... you didn't know that you can't make any race in any alliance without an upgrade? The one that's in the crown store? I know Alliance isn't as important with One Tamriel, but do try to learn about the game you're playing. Like reading the quest text.

But surely you've noticed while creating your character that you cannot make your char any race you like, only those available for your alliance?

I'm not actually entirely sure what it looks like without Any Race Any Alliance but I imagine the unavailable races get greyed out or something?

Not sure where you're going with that. I can actually think ZOS should do more while also understanding how the Race Change works.

I think they're doing it to get sales from people who don't know how it works. That's the cynical part. There was someone in this very thread thanking the OP for the PSA. And there were multiple threads about the Banker and Merchant. ZOS does benefit.

Should players have known how the race change works? Sure. Do I know? Yes. Does that somehow mean it'd be difficult for ZOS to add some additional text? No.

I don't have a lot of experience creating characters so I just went and double checked it.

You can make your character any race you like and the Alliance auto fills. Nothing is ever greyed out. So if a new player knows they want to make a Dunmer, they just click on Dunmer and never have to even notice Alliance. When I was making my character I was paying attention to race, class and appearance not the Alliance that was auto filled for me.

As a new player I knew that Alliance was just something to do with PVP and since I never PVP I completely ignored it.

In any case, a new player really shouldn't have to examine clues during the character creation process in order to reason out that "Race Change" means that you can change to only 2 races out of 9.

For me at least, the original post was a big help and saved my crowns.

what does pvp have to do with it? its part of character creation that alliances are locked to particular races. you did go through that right?

Hm. I suppose that's a fair point. One Tamriel does make it more confusing, I'm still used to alliances not meaning PvP but rather which zones are your "home" ones(and originally also what people you can even PvE with, because for a long time we could only see/interact with players of our own alliance in PvE).

It's amusing that now people seemingly don't even notice/know what alliance they are(not a jab at you, this actually seems fairly common these days).
