They have two weapons ( double the weapon damage as 2h), faster heavy attacks, can wear 2 full sets and monster helm, two traits, two enchantments And smoother animations for faster response And gameplay .And if it wasn't the case then why do I see sooo many dual wield builds out there? And when ppl post dps scores........soooooo much higher ( in almost all cases ).
Dual Wield is one of the better, more balanced weapon lines, as it requires the player to think meta and tackle rotation and sustain and only when you do the work do you get the return. Except for ones who rely on cheats and macros, any good DW player deserves your respect because they probably put 200% more into getting good than you have.
The best thing about the DW line is that more than any other weapon skill, it encourages players to play the combat as designed rather than spamming a couple of skills and relying on their pets to boost their dps, or on their cheap ultis or on their gear procs. It also insures many stam builds can compete with magicka builds in harder pve content. If it was to get nerfed significantly, it could result in a lot player's end-game stam dps toons not being able to continue doing harder group content--and I already know expert players who quit the game due to past nerfs rendering their stam builds weaker and less competitive. It already is hard enough for stam players to compete with mag players. You jelly about some DWer's dps? Imagine what we're thinking when some pet sorc whines that they could never go with the added 2k or so dps they get for just having a pet that does dps for you and requires virtually no sustain.
The game needs more balance like what DW gives and it needs to allow players choices with builds for end-game or we're end up with vet trials with 7 mag sorcs and no one except mag sorc players want that. So just effing stop.

This is not 100% correct. Dual wield and 2 hander are both meta viable just right now dual wield is meta optimal. As for the rest of your post that is just opinion but I do agree with some of it.
Curious ...
Take: 10 highly skilled dual wielders fighting against 10 highly skilled one-handers (i.e., great sward, great axe, etc.)
--> front bar and back bar must be the same weapon type ... with the exception of a bow (either team can use a bow on their back bar)
--> Eliminate the use of cloak ... no one can have that skill on their skill bar
--> No wardens allowed on either team
--> No sorcs allowed on either team
--> No heavy armor allowed on either team (including no heavy armor set jewelry/weapons)
--> No BOL allowed ... no one can have this skill on their bar
Which team would win?
