Anything I can do about crashes during Maw of Lorkhaj final boss?

I'm trying to get more into trials and joined a PuG for normal MoL earlier today. The run went fine on my end as far as performance goes until I got to the last boss. I was crashing like 20 seconds into the fight consistently (we wiped a few times). Then I did some searching and apparently if you mute the game you don't crash? This seemed to work but then as soon as we killed the boss I got another hard crash.
I disabled addOns and sound and it helped a little bit but is there anything else I can do to increase performance in this trial? The crashes on last boss were frustrating when I'm trying to learn.
