Do you have to be an ESO plus member for free crates?

I would just like some official clarification on who will or will not get the free crates in the upcoming event.
Will only active paid ESO subscribers for the entire duration of the event get all 6 crates?
I remember about a year ago when they had an event and everyone, even non ESO plus players got the crates since they technically had free ESO plus during the event.
Also, if you have paid ESO plus for 3 days out of 6. Will you only get 3 crates?
Some clarification would be great in this matter. Thanks!

In the first paragraph of the article they have stated that "...(free trial membership does not count)..." for the crates so I would expect that only fully paid members to get the crates. However if you sign up during the event I would expect you to get free crates for the remaining days of the event where you are a fully paid member.Recruitment Champion of Alith Legion.

You remember incorrectly. There was an event like this one just before I subbed; I got free ESO+ time, but no crates. Subs got crates.

✭✭✭✭✭The whole point of the event is that if you aren't an existing ESO+ subscriber you will become one for the duration of the event, but that to compensate those who are already ESO+ subscribers they will get free crates during the event. I assume that if you take out a subscription part-way through the event then you will qualify for free crates but only from then on, but that's conjecture on my part and if you want all the free crates then you should subscribe before the event starts.5
