Hello salt dealers of Cyrodiil!
This post is to address some of the current issues I see in Cyrodiil and i think can be fixed in the next year. Before i go about destroying PVP, a disclaimer. Many of the suggestions are also brain storming suggestions, they require balancing and can be looked at individually, but some may conflict or require balancing. These issues are also my opinion, but feel free to post up your own.
Cyrodiil Issue- First and foremost, lag, it compounds so many other issues and we've never really got the game to a steady 60 FPS in solo fights or 30 fps in large fights, even on good PCs.
- Cyrodiil is not a good area new players can learn how to PVP, it lacks proper tutorials & direction
- Much of the Cyrodiil is PVE area with PVP objectives to go to. This splits many player's purpose, they are here to quest or to help the war.
- A lack of incentive to continue to PVP end game. The two main objectives are getting emperor and getting leaderboard position, which normally depends more on politics than skill.
- The AP gain system encourages beating up easy targets and taking weak objectives rather than rewarding players for tough or skilled fights
- Most daily PVP quests outside the kill quests are useless as dailies, often leading to irrelevant objectives or keeps far removed from the battlefront
- many think the non CP and below 50 is balanced, but lacks population. The fights between players and even the gaurd fights are more challenging for most.
- There is an issue with players having a significant advantage in a zone when a campaign restarts or based on the timezone that a guild comes in to cap. Players could fight back for a zone control for hours in primetime and succeed only to have to do it all over again the next day since another faction capped during low population hours.
Cyrodiil Suggestions
- Continue work on eliminating the lag, take out and reduce whatever abilities, effects, etc. inside PVP to achieve this goal. Personally I don't care if I have to play with a total of 2 skills for a few weeks if we're on the road to improving performance.
- Rework Cyrodiil as a whole to work toward PVP objectives. This may include:
- Quests to promote your factions advantage
- Capture delves, checkpoints, and other locations to help with score and give advatages
- Alliance patrols on roads and choke points
- Achieving objectives may increase the strength of your alliance or weaken the other alliance.
- make this zone feel like an each alliance is encroaching to take over the area
- Give alliance vendors discounts or deals, once per day per character, based on AP earned in a campaign cycle. This might be a discount on item coffers, golden merchant, siege merchants or others for being active in a campaign.
- Add in more collectables than just rewards for the worthy, including:
- costumes or collectables for rewards for achievements or reaching certain PVP ranks
- Chances for imperial or PVP based furniture and plans.
- Purchasable mounts or reward mounts for hitting a certain PVP level, one per alliance
- Statues for the prior top scoring players in Cyrodiil per campaign, located in the player base. This is a bit of extra recognition and another goal to shoot for.
- Rework the AP gain system in PVP, AP given toward leaderboards verses AP given toward the player. Some changes might include:
- Repairing walls, doors, siege, doing quests outside the keeps, and general quests all reward AP toward the player, but will not count toward leaderboard.
- Killing players, healing players, assisting in killing players, capturing keeps, towns, resources, and carrying scrolls all give AP and will count toward leaderboards
- Objectives around the main circle will count as double AP.
- Killing the same player, repeatedly without death, in a X minute timeframe will not reward players toward leaderboards, as a way to prevent farming.
- AP for capturing objective will give an initial AP reward (50%) and then give additional AP 4 times every 5 minutes after for keeps, 2.5 minutes for resources. This is of course adjustable. After ticks can be received anywhere in zone.
- AP for players should be based on level and alliance rank, where a fresh level 10 only gives a fraction of AP verses a warlord should give a lot more, compared to what they give now.
- Give faster defensive rewards if the enemy was killed without getting a siege hit on an objective.
- Give added rewards capturing an objective if they used a siege to do 25% damage to a wall, kill a significant amount of guards, or a certain amount of players
- Note: the rework here is to reward for taking on harder challenges like killing higher level players, holding territory, and focus less on farming inexperienced players. There is also a slight focus to make players to spread out to defend objectives, rather than wait in the keep.
- Rework PVP quests to include generic capture and scouting of enemy territory. This can include
- Change the “capture X keep” into capturing 2 to 3 keeps.
- Change the “capture x resource” into capture 3 resources of a specific type (farm, mill, or mine)
- change the capture a specific scroll quest to just an capture scroll, with possible bonus for capturing more on an optional objective, as a once per day quest.
- Up the challenge of the guards in the above 50 campaigns, and even more in the full CP campaigns. Possibly scale up guard numbers, abilities, and stats to go with the group size when they are facing underdog scenarios.
- Add more of a main story quest inside of Cyrodiil. One to explains what happened when Molag Bal’s forces invaded, gets players involved in PVPing, and possibly something that gives better tutorials on fighting players verses npcs.
- Consider a way to reset the zones, especially after the campaigns have closed out. This should be the definitive marked end that leads to the next campaign cycle. If well received, consider ways to handle a reset every 12 or 6 hours to curb the effect of night capping.
That's it for me on Cyrodiil. This isn’t the end all to be all but included some items I think they can fix in the next year.
Thanks for reading and happy New Year!
(Sorry for the typos and crappy formatting, I'll be adjusting a few times more than likely)
