Blocking / AC question.

alphaguitarb14_ESO
Light / Heavy Attack -> Skill -> Block / Bash.

Is the reason people add the Block or Bash to the end solely for situations where they WANT to Block or Bash for the actual effect, or does cutting the Skill animation short by doing so actually further increase your DPS by allowing you to start your next Attack swing more quickly?? I can't seem to tell if it has an effect or not on that, as far as DPS goes is weaving the most you can do in terms of AC to actually take advantage of AC??

First of all , animation cancel does NOT allow you to use the next skill faster . Keep that in mind .

You do not want to bash all the time . Bashing costs a lot of Stamina . I use it only if my opponent is actually using a skill that is interruptable . Another usage is to put some extra burst , especially if you are using 1h/s . The passive in 1h/s tree called Deadly Bash makes bashing much more stronger compared to other weapons . Bash cancel is mainly used in PvP , rarely in PvE by tanks .

About the block cancelling , do not do that unless you actually want to block an attack . It cancels your Stamina regeneration . Weaving means Light/Heavy attack into skill , that's all . Nothing after that . Light weaving and Heavy weaving .

For DPS , bash cancelling your skills gives almost the same DPS as normal weaving but Stamina management is much worse . As I said , bashing costs a lot .

Good answer above. I'll also add that block/bash cancelling in increased lag environments (which is nearly everywhere if you're on console like me) often holds the block longer than normal, which can result in dps loss.

Swap and dodge cancels are two other forms of AC that I'd recommend. Swap cancelling can help increase your fluidity by cutting excess animation when the animation cast time > GCD, and tends to be more reliable than block cancelling (imo). Dodge cancelling is huge if you're playing a stam build in pvp (that uses dodge roll for defense). This form of AC allows you to maintain your mobility/defense

With a snb and it's passives, block canceling at the end of an attack adds a lot of needed damage in pvp.

Really only practiced on pc as on console you stop all regen trying to bash bc you have to block first.

Okay I think this mostly clears it up thanks guys.

Swap cancelling is the hardest to get used to because I have to sort of settle on a build and memorize what's on my other bar but at least I have a clearer understanding of what's going on now.

It's the most important, and the easiest once you get it down.

Just remember to only swap cancel on your utility/weaker bar when using a single target DOTs (E.g. Searing strike) and direct damage attacks (Magnum Shot) because their damage will be tied to the bar you swap to. Poison injection is an exception because it was reworked to optimize its execute bonus.

AOE DOTs (Volley) and Poison Injection can be swapped both ways because they are always tied to the active bar.

AOE direct damage is tied to the bar you swap to though, I think (e.g. Subterranean Assault).
