Questions on spellcrafting concept

I know its a common discussion subject and may be possible in the future but I was curious of what spellcrafting would actually entail? In my mind I invision the scrolls from Skyrim that let you cast spells you didn't know?

So a Templar could use spell crafting to create limited use consumable scrolls that would let someone equip and use say Rushed Ceremony in the consumables slot like a potion regardless of class? But I don't know if I'm far off of the general concept?

    Here is from 2014 QuakeCon and a sample of how they were going to do Spellcrafting. This system is made and coded as you see in vid. I personally love this system.
    It has been stated that this is on the back burner ATM, but is still possible in future.

    I remember watching the QuakeCon and thought the concept was cool with spell crafting can either make them abilities, active abilities or ultimates all with morphs and runes being tradeable.
    But I can see it being incredibly hard to balance, we're struggling to balance the classes we have let alone add more easily abusable mechanics.

    The developers that were working on spell crafting left shortly after Quakecon 2014. So I doubt anyone is still working on it.

    Paul Sage and Nick Konkle left in spring 2015.
    There are ESO Live episodes and a couple of interviews that said it was still on the table, but not a priority atm...
    Or I should clarify, "Still being looked at, but not in the near future.."..

    Would seem to be very difficult to find the right balance. Would be one of those things that is either overpowered or totally worthless/pointless. Particularly in this dps envirnment.

    Worthless, please... at least in an Endgame sense.

    Why? Because then it would have a chance of staying the same shape for five minutes if the competitive content crowd weren't calling for nerfs.

    We only know what it probably won't look like, because spellcrafting as originally unveiled has since been described by the game director as something he doesn't want to do.

    Same thing. With spell crafting we actually got in enough to start seeing how it worked, we didn’t like the design so much and it was going to be more work than we thought to get it to launch so we kind of put it aside to do Thieves Guild, Dark Brotherhood, One Tamriel, housing etc.

    But it will come eventually, it’s just further out.

    Well I have my concerns about spell crafting. I mean don't get me wrong - it is a good idea but how are you going to balance this out ? ? ? Especially for PvP ? ?

    How are you going to not to make a mag sorc using a invisibility spell (yeah.... 3 shields, a lot of dmg and a NB - style stealth invisibility). The same goes for lets say NB being able to use some "shield" spells... or DK being able to use some Templar - style burst healing... Current class balance in eso is a mess and I can not imagine this being any better with custom spells like that... :o

    Too bad we dont have those devs anymore, the new ones are....lackluster to say the least.

    I would have LOVED a justice system like that.

    I would love spell crafting.

    What happened? Seriously. Imo it was the crown crates and store. Once they saw they could make money from garbage, boom. Focus shift.

    Last year Matt Firor (game director) said they didn't like that design.

    That could be a disaster... Imagine all those gankers in PvE zones... in every good spot where you can loot some junk and then fence it - there would be a fu** ton of them... standing next to desks, crates, wardrobes etc...
    To be honest that would hit the guild traders the hard way as if stealing & fencing stuff is the fastest way for solo players to farm gold... and that gold later goes to.. you guess it - guild traders...

    Ye gods. Fun as that system sounds, I, for one, wouldn't want to roll it out into the game in the form described in the Youtube video. [Which, to be fair, is three or more years old.]

    Think about it. At least three or four - let's call them three - "schools" of magic, each with six active skills (standard for a skill line) plus passives, each skill with six morphs turning it into a different skill...That's 108 new active skills that everyone in the game can potentially access. Plus the school passives, of course.

    Balance that.

    Also, too, make sure people have any reason to invest in weapon or class lines beyond the 1-2 button pseudo-build you need to chase down the tablets in PVE. While also giving them a reason to chase the 108 new skills.

    Also, too, give stamina characters something to do. While the mages run around with 108 new skills. Otherwise why bother with a stamina character?

    It's a cute concept but could potentially be such a bloody nightmare...

    ...so I hope when they do roll these things out they figure out a way to do it differently. Which isn't easy (assuming you also keep any replacement system "fun"), I'll grant.

    Not really, they werent around at first. The once expansion per quarter was already planned before the crown store even existed. I can understand a crown store, but the crates were just not needed, and then they focus so much energy on developing those things we dont get needed and wanted new things.

    Creating spells is literally the point of it, it's spell crafting. It'd be like expecting blacksmithing to create consumable weapons, why would you expect that?

    It isn't really inventing spells? It's finding spells that have more generic morphs than normal and scale with quality instead if player stats? Not like the comments of people wanting to invent godly game breaking spells like the one I was replying to.
