Did ESO have it's best year?

Why does the guild trader interface lack any real structure and QoL function? Why does my mail often take so long to come through, unless I relog, or port somewhere else?

Bethesda Softworks is the KING of immersion and RPGs. Zenimax is a Bethesda studio. A server-wide auction house is not immersive, and neither is instant mail. I believe these will never change, as they are not bugs. They are thought out design choices.

I personally felt that there was alot more players actively playing throughout 2017. My guilds member lists was super active this year. I saw more players in Cyrodiil constantly this year. Then I saw a metric boat load of high end rare crown crate mounts roaming the roads and towns.

All and all I wouldn't be surprised if 2017 was ZOSes best year with ESO.

I just started playing this past May. I was a long time wow player but the game changed immensely over the years and I was becoming less happy with it and so tried ESO when they had a free play weekend.

I got hooked because of the immersion. There are some nights where I won't log out until I finish a chain because the storyline sucked me in. The RPG elements is what makes this game for me and that includes the incremental leveling of crafts, horse riding, acquiring homes, furniture, character development.

Some want to skip the journey and get right to the destination because to them the game "begins" at level cap, skill cap, all other caps.

Erm...uhm...did you really just say that the buggy mail is intended because it's immersive??? Please don't give ZOS ideas like that, they have enough "features" of their own already...

Thanks for the laugh, but no, the mail is just bugged to all hell :D Besides, actually immersive mail would be taking weeks or months to arrive, they should probably be using pigeons at that time or something. The guild traders interface is also more laziness than "immersion" - they didn't bother putting any effort in it, then saw people already solved that with addons and said "ah whatever it'll do" it seems.

    Not exactly.

Morrowind was big, and the 10mil stories was too.

PvP wise hells nah. Balance is awful, they blanket nerfed the game into a slow, hard to sustain dullness where zerging is necessary unless you are a warden, and DK is effectively rip.

40 dollars for morrowindividuals just to not be able to get cool stuff unless I pay more for loot boxes.

I'd say its all downhill from here

I left in circa May 2016 after TG got released, along with the horribly lousy Mow of Lorkhan. Well, sorry. MoL is just my opinon here, of course. Anyway, now I read I can go to the isle where my Elder Scrolls fandom began all these years ago: Morrowind. The terrible veteran system was abolished and CP caps were put into the game in a reasonable way (I guess). Player groups can trade their loot freely for like two hours and the hilariously random uselessness of sturdy or well-fitted Undaunted monster sets has been mitigated somehow. Poisons are in the game and seem to be a nice flavor (no pun intended), things got buffed, things got nerfed and there are new dungeons to explore. Players can buy houses and stuff them with fluff and generally ESO communicates the feeling that it left its infant state behind. Mostly...

Time to come back and I sure hope 2018 will be the year of awesomeness. Happy landings!

First year was absolutely the best, I truly feel bad for anybody that still believes performance is going to improve at some point.

From sales point of view, it was pretty good, but from my point of view, which matters nothing, it was the reason i ended my sub and left the game, the sustain changes and no rewards even for casual playing, while pumping the should be rewards in game into crown store/crates killed it for me.

Are we suppose to actually believe that you don't play the game but yet are still on the forums?

Some just cannnot leave properly and think their opinions are still valid

Or maybe they still care about the game and are having trouble watching it (in their opinion) die?

How can first year be the best? The classes (especially NB) were broken for various reasons. Gear imbalances, op, etc etc. The quality of questing, storyline NPCs, zones and environments, etc have only improved since the first year.

ESO is doing very well over all . I put my personal issues aside to tell the truth . They won MMO of the year at Massively OP and Game Spot . They are doing something right . Just because they don't always do exactly what I want does not mean they didn't have a good year and there are a lot of happy players here still .

There are many players that don't post on reddit or the forums here that enjoy ESO and rate it highly. Forums is a small slice of the total playerbase. And the percentage of positive ESO forum posts is an even smaller slice because, well, forums are most of the time for asking questions and complaints.

I've spent a lot of money on this game... I really wish it went back to a subscription model though. There's no achievement just buying costumes and mounts in the CS.

I remember when I got my Veteran Rank Costume's! I felt so proud, and the achievement was real!

So yeah, they be rollin in the dough but at what price? What price is the "soul" of a game worth? Honestly I preferred it with bugs and no new content to the CS drop... I find myself wondering why I even play sometimes. I haven't even finished parts of DB, Morrowind and haven't even started Clockwork City even though I bought them all outright. Its like I'm buying it just because I have been since launch.

I didn't say anything about a server-wide auction house. As for the snail-mail, how is having to zone immersive?

I think it had a great year if not it's best.....one thing I have noticed is the shrinking of the constant complainers (maybe they tired out or maybe they stopped posting on their alt accounts...) There also seems to be a steady growth in people who vocally support the game. I loved Morrowind although I found the overall xpack a short one...I hope the next one has more meat insofar as questing goes.

I would say that ZoS has set it self up to have it's best year in 2018.

Top LOL here. Balance now is better then it ever has been in the game. There are very few things that need tweaking right now mainly over performing armor sets. Class balance is pretty good, besides stam DK needing a little love. Give them a stam whip and they will be back like the 80's

Content-wise, 100% yes. Also they brought in a lot of new players thanks to Morrowind advertisement but that only lasts so long. Clockwork City is also huge in TES lore and was very well done, so at least content-wise they’ve done an *incredible* job imo.

What I am seeing though unfortunately, is a golden opportunity for ZOS that they will not take advantage of. Game performance has deteriorated for years alongside increasing lag, and ZOS makes it worse each patch. For awhile it was passable, but things have gotten so bad now (along with poor after-launch Warden balancing/adjustments) that many players especially in PvP get annoyed and quit. Very noticeable in the lack of campaign population plus ESO’s main streamers have left too. Also on console the FPS is terrible even in 12-man trial content and people constantly crash.

ESO is definitely at risk of losing a substantial amount of money due to their negligence in game performance. If you thought it was bad before you just wait because things are still going even farther downhill in terms of game performance. It has even caused endgame PvE to become stale which you can see in the leaderboards that no one cares about anymore (at least on my platform). Most of the highest scores are from weekly pug runs xD
