I'm more excited for custom appearance outfits than spellcrafting

I see many people here on the forums looking forward to spellcrafting (not that we have heard anything about this for a very long time, and it does look really slim to ever get it now), but personally, I am looking much, much more forward to the appearance transmogrification feature than anything else.

Initially, one of the main things that put me off this game, and was a constant nagging frustration, was the fact that you could never customize your appearance. Customization was only allowed for crafted sets, many of which are woefully underperforming, and impossible to create for an entire outfit, due to not being able to craft jewelry. Gloing for an all crafted set is just not a viable option, when you want to compete in endgame content like dungeons, trials and PvP. And with how every dropped set comes with a single, predetermined - and often bland or boring looking - motif, as well as monster sets being as hideous as they are, I had to resort to costumes for every appearance changing. Costumes are again often not available in the store, seeing as everything is limited time only, and often you cannot find a good looking costume for your need. While there are some dresses and robes, you'd be really hard pressed to find any good heavy armor or combat costumes.

Why it has taken so long for this game to acknowledge the player's need to change their purely cosmetic appearance to suit their desires, is really beyond me. It is really such a basic need for a RPG related game. But better late than never, and I must say that this feature, and its arrival to the game soon, has more than anything rekindled my interest in the game. As a collector of motifs, and master crafter, it has been a bitter disappointment to collect all these expensive and rare motifs, knowing they were mostly just useless, and I'm now looking forward to discovering some of the great designs your team has put out in the past, and craft some great new costumes for myself, and hopefully for others as well.

Knowing ZOS' track record, however, there are some concerns that I have, or some hopes that you'll avoid certain aspects of this coming feature, and I'd like to make them clear to you:

- Please do not in any way make this another cash grab for the crown store. This would be my greatest concern and plea to you. Introducing custom outfits to the game will already boost your sales through motifs and mimic stones, for those who don't want to obtain them in the ingame way. And by all means, introduce the crown store as an option, but not a requirement for this feature. Appearance changing has been the single most asked for feature for as long as I have played this game, so let us have it then, as a nice appreciation of your player base, and not as another way to milk the cash cow. Please?

- Allow crafters to change the appearance of other player's equipment, or craft them outfits. Some people like to collect motifs, some people don't. Allowing players to change the appearance of items for other players, or craft them custom outfits, is a nice way for motif collectors and crafters to make the gold necessary to buy those 40k motif pages and 100k furnishing recipes. And it allows those players who don't want to collect motifs and craft to still participate in the new feature, buying the service from others, or getting it from their friends or guildmates. This is a multiplayer game, allowing players other ways to interact with one another and buy/sell/trade/barter/donate goods and services is a nice element.

- And finally a small, but nagging annoyance. Get rid of the red/pink hue of rubedite weapons. If you won't/can't allow for weapon dyeing yet, that's fine, but at least get rid of the inherent red hues of rubedite, and purpleish hues of void materials. It would be as simple as clicking one button, or changin one line of code, to have those materials look the same as their colourless variants, instead of applying their material tier hue to everything you craft. Custom outfit appearance is going to be marred somewhat as long as everyone is forced to wield red staves and red swords despite being able to change everything else about their appearance.

As am I. I just bought the Encasement of Anguish, so hopefully there’s a way to transmog unique styles.

i hope the transmog system will be absolutly free and easy to use so that you can switch however you like as soon as you know a motif

spellcrafting the way players want it will never come but you could argue that morphs are a kind of spellcrafting...what they could also do instead of changing skills is adding a 3rd morph for examle..

honestly i am most excited for a) new content and b) new classes and/or skill lines

For transmog, it is a big assumption, but it makes sense that they would allow the switching of motif similar to transmutation allowing switching of trait. With that as a (flimsy) basis, my wishes are:

    * don’t limit armor based on weights — for example there is only really one motif that has a heavy armor head that looks like a hood. I want to look like a robe wearing wizard in a hood (without my face covered), but occasionally I need to wear heavy armor (pvp, undaunted passive, etc)

    * don’t limit armor based on item level — some of my favorite looks are the early low level homespun stuff!

Obviously these two things complicate the transmog process, but it would be worth it!

@Zordrage Would you mind explaining what the GW2 transmog system does for those of us who haven't played?

I agree that this is an exciting feature I am looking forward to hearing more about. It will be nice to wear my Velidreth shoulder piece and not look like I have some weird mold spore thing growing on my shoulder. It will also (hopefully) make crafting more relevant again.

Maybe a Crafter could mix a style material with a temper and use it to make a transmog stone of a motif they know, they could then sell it to other players

Every single weapon or armor pice you ever get its skin automatically Unlocks in your Account Bound wardrobe to use...

So you just go in your character screen click on one of your gear Like Gloves for example and a Window will Open and shows ALL the glove skins you unlocked on that entire account and you just apply it and thats it....
