controllers for PC

I had hoped taking off for a few months they would eventually fix the controller issue for PC, but it appears I still need to use DS4Windows in order to play. I don't get it why almost everything else on Steam auto-detects the PS4 controller and lets me use it as is, but this game still needs a third party software to use it. At least the keybindings can be customized in the control scheme, the default controls are atrocious with a gamepad.

I just logged in via Steam and my PS4 controller worked exactly like my Xbox controller does. This sounds like a Steam issue.

......I know the OP is talking about a PS4 controller, but FWIW I've been using a - fairly old, actually - Xbox 360 controller for ESO (and all other like games) on my PC and it works fine. Both through Steam and through the "regular" client, in fact.

...........possibly not an ESO issue?

my xbox controller works "fine" but im playing not on steam... only issues i have is that it randomly disconnects - sometimes quite often - but this seems to be connected to windows updates

Did you set your game for controller use in the ingame settings?

I use the PS4 controller through big picture mode. Works pretty well. Months ago one of the drivers for DS4Windows caused a fatal issue with my registry preventing me from booting windows in any possible way. I had to do a full reinstall. What I notice about big picture mode is that once you configure your controller, you can actually launch the game without big picture, but you just won’t be able to use the touchpad buttons.
