Bounty Hunter for PvP

NOTE: This was a post I made a year ago and is just copy and pasted with additions.

So in R.S (Runescape) there's a bounty hunter system (referring to the older version if you're familiar with it too). You'd enter the wilderness which is the PvP area and you will fight other players risking your items,etc.
In ESO I believe we should have the same system but we go about it in this way.
  • When you enter Cyrodiil if you kill a enemy faction player (random players in the faction you just killed) that enemies alliance will give random players your name as a bounty.
  • The more you kill the more renown you earn which attracts targets to you (will go into detail why it would later in the post).
  • There could be leaderboards that show who's killed the most players and with what ability was the final blow (so we'll know if you're just a bomber :) )
  • You have a option to directly participate in it via new NPC who will give you the option to participate in it but you will still be killed by other players in PvP anyway.
  • If you participate in it and if you have a target, it will show you where your target's general location is (similar to that of a forward camp but double/triple the size to make it harder).
  • When you reach a certain kill target as per quest you can turn it in to the new NPC who will give you another kill quest + currency specific for bounty hunter rewards.
  • If you kill a high profile target you can get some currency from the new NPC as well (you won't know if they're high profile until you see them enter combat)
  • If you are a high profile target which is obtained when killing over 20 players (up for debate) you will earn more bounty hunter rewards when turning in the quest.

Rewards
  • Cosmetic costumes that can be sold (up for debate)
  • Emotes (ones that show your fighting strength based on weapon equipped and class) [Example] - DK wielding 2h shows me smashing the ground which creates a crater with molten rock.
  • New Titles (like "Hunter" or "Assassin" & "Guardian" or "Savior")
  • New Set items (Trade-able aka bind on equip)
  • Siege Merchant who sells you new siege gear (we all know it's coming sooner or later >:) )
  • Siege Bag
  • Gold ranging from 500-1,000 per bounty target eliminated (up for debate)

The person doing the killing will receive the rewards + renown per kill. The quest will give you 20-50 enemy specific factions to kill but after a specific time frame (up for debate) it will reset. You can turn the quest in even if you kill 1 player from that specific faction but you won't gain a lot of Bounty Hunter currency till you start killing a lot of players but bare in mind the time limit will put you at risk at sometimes.

A high target player (one who's killed more than 20 players) will have a Icon maybe a skull or scythe near their name when they enter combat; killing that player will give you 50% (up for debate) of their renown (the person you killed will still keep theirs) but if you die, you will lose it unless you speak to the new NPC and turn in the high profile kill.

If you do not wish to participate simply don't talk to the new NPC and don't accept this quest he/she offers. Targeted kills offer more renown then random kills (forgot to add that!) and those who are in groups can receive a loot-share which will reward each player a fraction of renown + gold gained (aimed at the support groups in PvP).

-Not sure if I'missing anything since it's soo late but feel free to discuss. I think this feature would be great and fun to do although it may create more people wanting to go into PvP which means more lag!
My goal is to make PvP have more things to go after in order to make it even more fun to do.

    It sounds like a great idea for pvp, it certainly would make pvp much more intresting! This would be awesome way to keep a lot of players entertained.

    Back in starwars galaxy's player bounty system that was just awesome and it's somthing I Havnt seen another mmo do

    As a solo player magnb I would love to go hunting across cyro for my targets!

    Bounty hunting for PvP and justice system so we can kill thieves / murderers in PvE would really add to the game

    Its an achievement for killing some who killed you earlier.
    Grinding just make you go in circles.
    Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

    Not a huge fan of the specifics but I think the idea is really cool. So basically the more effective you are in pvp the more bounty you are worth. That is hard to judge, because ap/min gain, alliance rank, leaderboard rank, k/d ratio, killing blow streaks, doesnt necessarily mean you're super good. That being said I think it would be a fun addition although having a high bounty on your head probably wouldn't end up being a source of pride but more of an annoyance than anything.

    This isn't about identifying the super good as you assumed it to be; It is about having something more to do if capturing keeps, and getting scrolls seem boring. This is actually close to the kill quest for killing specific classes but instead left to specific players who has a choice to participate or not.

    Nowhere in this post did I state this would be a feature that you are 100% stuck with but I did state that you can willing participate or not as you would have to talk to a new NPC to get started with the quests.

    Again the bounty on your head only pertains to those who willing wanted to participate and if they do not want to then they may just ignore the NPC; I'd appreciate it if you read my post :(

    I did read your post and my response was simply an extension of my own thought process based off of what you suggested. You mentioned the idea of high target players, which are based off of kills. My point in saying that having a high bounty might be annoying and not a sense of pride was to allude to how many people may end up actually participating in the system. Another point was to highlight the fact that it is relatively difficult to accurately score someone based solely off of certain statistics. Just like how emperor and battlegrounds leaderboards really just show who has invested the most time in pvp, classifying someone as a high value target would probably end up being similar.

    I know you didn't mention that it would be intended to identify skilled players, but the nature of bounties in general and the idea of high value targets surely insinuates the idea that if you are really good at pvp and participate in the bounty system that you would or should have a high bounty.

    No where in my post did I say that you said you would have no choice in participating in the bounty program although I understand how you could infer that. I would appreciate it if you didn't jump to conclusions in regards to what I read or don't read :)

    Edit: This is still a great idea, props for suggesting it and hopefully they do implement something like it. It would be neat to go into cyrodiil with the goal of assasinating specific players, and I would enjoy fending off those trying to off me for a bounty.

    @MaxwellC hey hey, I have a better idea, how about we let the *** aside and leave ZoS to do more important things...especially regarding pvp like say....hmmm fixing lag? cuz the idea of having bounty hunters that have to play vs huge lags is a turn off for me...yes the idea is awesome but I think fixing the damn lag should be a priority and everything else after.

    I think a bounty system in Cyrodiil only would be fun.

    An idea would be to allow each Alliance to name 1 or 2 enemy players from each opposing faction to hunt down. Maybe put a 1 hour time limit or something then the alliance has to pick a new target. The target could either be by vote from the top 10 opposing players of each alliance on the map at the time or it just defaults to the top 1 or 2 players in each opposing faction

    Any players that have a hand in killing the target would get an extra 500 AP or something small like that.

    Could add an extra dimension to the game.

    People who leave items in chests or on resource nodes should be marked with a bounty. If caught and killed, they forfeit all items and gold on them.

    Does that go for both ends or just for the hunters? If not, it could be very annoying if you will have that huge zerg-aim on your back just because you do regular PVP activities.

    @Chilly-McFreeze No this is only extends to those who willingly participate in this mini-game so those who aren't apart of it wouldn't receive a notification for a target but you could in theory have one of your friends have a bounty and you go and attack said target.
    This still would not give you your friend who didn't join the mini-game any reward whatsoever but if he joined you would share a split of how much renown you would've earned.

    Maybe I didn't explain it quite well but high value target is something that is temporary as the end goal is to turn in the quest (as I mentioned before) to the new NPC for rewards. The high-value target thing would be given to those who have killed more than 20 in a row without dying and as such for doing so you will receive larger rewards for doing so.
    I'll update the main thread to make that more clear.

    I don't think renown should be based just on kills. Healers that keep groups alive should definitely be targeted too. Perhaps just use leaderboard rank.
