Stand Out! New cosmetic implementation idea! [ZoS this is for you!]

Hey guys,

Lately I’ve been thinking about a simple implementation to the game that would make it more rich, diverse and interesting and I am willing to gather some opinions and ideas to enhance this project.

Idea: Make challenges, achievements, quests and/or buyable effects that change how your skills looks.

Example: thouse of us that played World of Warcraft know that Warlocks had fire skills that looked red (like Chaos Bolt) but you could complete a quest that made your flame attacks bascially green fire, in pvp and pve.

So what if ZoS implemented something similar? Make it possible so that your Magicka Dragon knight skills (fiery breath, flamewhip etc...) were green, purple or any other color – maybe by doing a quest, completing an achievment or buying it of the crown store?

Then you’ll be able to go into pvp and kill people while showing off that you completed this tough achievment, or go into vMaw with your sexy new cosmetics!

What do you guys think? Any other ideas?

Thanks,
Quantum

Hi! Didn't we just have a thread on this?

Yeah, we did. I knew I remembered commenting on something similar: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/384438/coming-from-poe-a-suggestion#latest

Anyway, I'm going to repeat some of what I said there because I think it's still valid:

What you want could be a nice thing to add variety in PVE, but it really couldn't work in PVP where players have to rely on recognizing what the enemy is using in order to counter it properly. Adding different colors and designs to, say, spear jabs, creates a higher learning curve for new players. An experienced PVPer will look for the animation and stance to see that its jabs and react accordingly, but new players don't have that experience and have a hard enough time learning to recognize, react, and counter abilities already.

I'd have to agree with Varanis. ESO is build more for visual abuse and less about the UI. This game also requires more active game play to avoid damage.

Changing my he color of a bear is one thing. It's still obvious it's a bear. Change the appearance of projectiles and more may not be so clear.

It could also lead to additional server load which would be an ad thing. Especially in Cyrodiil.

You want green dk fire go stamina morph.

But really, skills need to stay the same, otherwise its impossible to counter play and react to attacks by another player.

Did claws just hit me for increased poison damage so i need to purge? Or is this guy hitting me to put on fire dots and heal, where I need to weaken his healing?

I am all for costumes, gear, and mounts to stand out... thats more than enough. Changing your skills so that your mag sorc frags can look like pikachu and explode in hearts is nit necessary or needed.
