Furnishing & crafting - item overflow in limited inventory space

To use furnishings does one need to have the item in ones inventory? Sorry if this sounds like an obviously stupid question.

If so, I think that this is wasted space big-time, about as useful as monster trophies.

Furnishing should be like recipes, once learnt its added to the characters skill/ lore library.

Or, am I missing something :open_mouth:

Furnishing recipes (diagrams, praxis, plan, etc.) are learned like provisioning recipes and don't occupy space. Actual furnishing items are mostly actual items but once placed in the house they aren't in your inventory/bank anymore. There are also certain collectibles (assistants/pets/mounts/undaunted busts/trophies) that can be placed in housing but are not part of your normal backpack/bank inventory.

Technically there are now four "free" apartments since Morrowind launched. You can choose to start a character there and get the St. Delyn Penthouse for free.
