I find this funny because in every MMO game I've played in the past 10 years there is always one form or another of this posted in their respective forums
I don't know if its from people with too much time on their hands or a combination of a armchair general trying to evoke panic lol
Anyway i'm glad this recurring trend is here as well haha
You have multiple metrics, one is how many have bought the game, this includes sales, might even include trial accounts.lordrichter wrote: »Arthur_Spoonfondle wrote: »10,000,000 players? Are they having a laugh?
The article was rather free with that statistic, implying that there are 10 million people actively playing. All ZOS has ever said is that 10 million accounts were created, which does mean 10 million players. We have no idea what the active player count is, but in a B2P game, most of them could be active, or at least able to be made active.
I was in the game yesterday and there were thousands (and I do mean thousands) playing. It is not like no one plays.
I really dislike the whole 10mil players thing.
ESO has plenty of players but we shouldn’t be throwing out these ridiculous numbers to try to sound better.
10 million accounts created does not equal 10 million players. There are so many bots, and mass amounts of players quit at launch or during disappointing patches for various reasons. I was legit once part of 5 full 500-member guilds that completely went offline (except for me ofc) after not even 3 months had past since launch.

I mean ZOS is pretty loose with the 10 million comment as well. We dont know if that counts bots, or duplicate accounts or not.
A lot of games talk about how many copies they've sold, they never said active players.
This page seem to favour quantity over quality.
Morrowind was anything but a stellar DLC, and 10 million players is a straight up lie.
Further down the page they award the Nintendo Switch the system of the year because (again) 10 million units have been sold. I mean the Switch over the Xbox One X.
Meaningless awards.

Your opinion. Imo switch was a milestone in gaming Industry, while I didn't even notice xbox 1 x (what a name) at all.

Implying, but I would be very *** suprised to hear that is the case.
It's much more likely they were given the statistic of 10 million accounts created, and ran with it, and ZOS never ment to correct them.
It also does not take into account how many are bots.

I agree switches are a lot more important. I have quite a few in my house but no boxes with xes on it.

Ok, I'll go in the corner.
So congrats ESO on winning the cup - now we just need a coach to come out and tell us how you will keep on training harder to continue and improve your game for the next seasonJust do it!

So? You know it's marketing. Noone truely believes we have that many players.
Also this mass exodus you mentioned is a console thing. Understandably so. In the mean time , my guild on PC went from 50 players to 500 Now within the last 2 years.
ESO has it's flaws, but so do others. I can't tell which MMO did more than ESO this year.

"MMO OF THE YEAR – ELDER SCROLLS ONLINE
Few games in the MMO space continue to gain new players month after month, and the Elder Scrolls Online from Zenimax Online Studios and Bethesda is one of the lucky few. It doesn’t hurt that it also keeps getting some of the best regular content updates in all of MMO-dom, including this year’s stellar Morrowind expansion and Clockwork City DLC. With now over 10 mln players worldwide, ESO is here to stay."

Ok.. congrats to Bethesda and all those involved in the development of ESO. However, not hating or taking away any glory from this, but, how big of a deal is this? I mean, Gamespace.. what is Gamespace and how big of a deal or luxurious would it be to receive a award from them? I actually never heard of Gamespace until now.
