Pledges are hopeless. Please fix

I queue for a pledge as a DD, the group have killed every boss exept last boss, i cant finish pledge and try to queue again just to have to wait 15 minutes because i just queued. This happens way to often, please remove queue penalty for the poor soul that replaced another group member. Im trying to level undaunted with my DD and its hopeless. Please just fix it

I felt your pain trying to level undaunted as a DD...make sure you do the daily undaunted quests that takes you to delves, that will help level it also. You may be doing this already but it will help you level and they don't take that long. I would do the daily quest first thing and then the pledges. The quest givers name starts with a B, Borgdahl or something like that.

Well, the queue is just supply and demand. I think the ratio of people queuing as DDs is skewed even beyond what would amount to a trial group make-up. I tick both tank/DD or healer/DD sometimes when queuing for normal dungeons, ex. during the recent event and I almost never get picked as DD. It's tank or healer ~95% of the time, most times in as little as 10s. So it's clear that few people queue as tank and even fewer do actually tank or at least hold aggro in any way when they get in - I do slot the undaunted taunt while maintaining generally a DD setup. I've even noticed in zone chat or trade guilds people with almost fully formed PuGs Craglorn normal trials spamming for tank for as much as 30 minutes, and go unanswered. So the problem is real. This shows there's barely enough tanks to get by for trial groups where you have 8-16% (1/12-1/6), let alone dungeons, where the ratio should be 25%(1/4). Probably considerably less than 10% of characters in this game have a tanking setup. All my characters have multiple setups for at least 2/3 roles since they are well rounded, not just grinded to 50 and thrown into content.

I can't tank at all on any of my characters I do dungeons with, but on magplars (on the rare occasions that I throw myself on the mercy of dungeon-finder to team me with people) I do sometimes check healer too, at least for normals. Having a resto staff on back bar and doing the dps/heal thing is usually more than adequate healing for normals.

Easiest way to solve this is find one other player and join group finder as a pair. You won't get stuck in a group where one person left it before the end. If that person also happens to be a tank then you get the added bonus of a fast queue. If you are a decent DPS then tanks will like queuing with you since they know the dungeon will be finished in a reasonable amount of time.

Conclusion: Do good DPS, and make friends with tanks and your group finder woes will be over.

Very true, having friends in game means you very rarely have to rely on pugging stuff. A friend will wait if you need to turn in a quest at the end too.

Or grab a set of heavy armor, get a sword & shield and tick the corresponding box in group finder. The queue time is ~10s on average. Any class can do it if it uses the proper gear and skills. Then people will add you and ask you to run dungeons non-stop :)

    This.

I still wonder why so less people who play magicka based chars do not play their chars in all 3 roles. For 4-man-vet-stuff it's just getting some gear and a macroclick, Dressing Room does the rest, no CP, attribute or mundus change needed. With a stamina build char you can do the same at least for the DD and tank role.

Instead of enjoying the options and features of this game in full, 3 million people queue up as a DD while 2 million of those can't do the dps of an average DD...

My only explanation for that behavior is that there are far too many Sky Reach babies out there who do even lack the skillpoints for the 1hand+shield and heavy armor skill lines...

Um. Well some people actually like playing a dd. "I can't find a group as a dd - Then find one as tank" isn't really solving the problem as finding the group as a dd, just saying. Plus being a good tank, while still doable with whatever cp/attribute allocation for most dungeons, does require specific gear, most of which is BoP and requires quite a bit of farming to get. Wanting to play as a dps has no direct correlation to being a bad player whatsoever.

Also personally I've mostly stopped queueing for vet dungeons on my tank because on my tanks I actually tank and cannot dps. That means if I get a 5k total dps group I'm stuck with it. It's hilarious at first but it has gotten old eventually.

To actual OP - imo they should just make pledges auto complete as well. That's what they do to randoms, wouldn't hurt anyone and would give people more of an incentive to help out with unfinished pledges(whereas now many people just drop group if it's progressed beyond first pledge boss before they joined).

Oh yeah, it's so difficult to play a tank....please stop that sermon. It's taunting, piling up trash as good as possible, debuffing and buffing (Warhorn -> 3 hours PvP in Cyro..) and having the ressources for that (prismatic glyphs). The skills on your skill bar are mostly self-explaining if you aren't a complete moron and mostly interchangable for all 5 classes.

I looked up Woeler's site for tanks, adjusted the build a bit for 4-man-stuff and to my personal comfortness and then I just queued the first time as a tank. Some things you might learn the hard way (especially interrupts in special boss fights), some things you already know from your life as DD. It's maybe hard to do that as a total noob mostly because of personal gold funds, but as a long time player it shouldn't be such of an issue. The only thing you - maybe - have to farm actively is Swarm Mother when you don't play a DK or Warden as tank for better piling up trash mobs, but I am pretty sure, almost all pledges will work nevertheless and the time wasted for ranged NPCs you have to kill separate will be limited. You can do a lot alone by using initial aggro and positioning. Actually the DK and Warden tanks I meet in PUGs I never watch using chains or portals are legion, so Swarm Mother should not make any difference.

You don't need Akaviri + Ebon as a 4-man-vet-pledge-tank. You can buy Akaviri on guild traders btw for reasonable prices. Ebon you might collect otw. As a crafted set I would take good old Seducer anytime. Even in just purple quality it would be sufficient for any 4-man-pledge except maybe RoM, CoS and the other 2 DLC pledges.

Nobody should be stressed to play always a tank (I agree that the fake-DD issue is much worse as the fake-tank issue), but I like the variability and experienced extremely short queues (10 seconds max) and a lot of flexibility in PUGs. Playing a DD is my favorite too, but the flexibility (I can even be a full healer on all my magicka chars) allowed my to get all speed, no death and slayer achievements with 5 of my 6 chars at least for nonDLC stuff in PUGs, while others are still sleeping in the queue as a DD.

Nowhere in my post did I say anything about the difficulty of being a tank...I said that
1)sometimes people don't WANT to play a tank just because they prefer other roles
2)sometimes people don't CHOOSE to play a tank in groupfinder just because groups there often suck and tanks can't carry subpar dps
3)being a good tank does require noticeable investments. Ebon, Alkosh, Warhorn, stuff. That doesn't however mean you cannot roflstomp all normals and most vet dungeons with almost any setup if your team has any clue whatsoever. Vet dlc ones, depends, a tank can really make or break it. Everything else, honestly I'll be happy if the pug tank just taunts and STAYS IN *** PLACE instead of running everything out of all the aoes.

Anyway, I was just responding to that "they just must be too dumb to realize they can be tanks instead" line. There is a little bit more to it than that.

Solo que on normal. Solo the rest, you still get 2 keys.

It's Akosh. You get it from doing nMoL. Not Akaviri.

    Torug's pact is also acceptable.

A good tank most certainly can carry sub-par DPS.

It just takes much longer. Which is annoying.

It's Akaviri Dragonguard and yes you can buy it for reasonable prices from guild traders, it's BoE. Imho one of the best sets you can get for 4-man-stuff and even raids. A demand for Alkosh would be a bit of an overkill for an average 4-man-vet-instance and being a tank in a PUG imho. In raids a tank should have it, but Torug is a good and cheap replacement and much more important, it delivers crafted weapons and shields which would be a pain to farm otherwise or still cost some gold in the case of Akaviri. I once farmed Ebon just by doing pledges, after a while I had several full sets and now almost all pieces in sturdy, so I just keep it and use it in combination with Akaviri. I find the 1k health group buff still useful. Matter of taste, I could switch to Torug too in a good dps group where peeps can make actually use of the resistance debuff.

...but the topic was 4-man-stuff in PUGs and please lets not exaggerate. Btw, I still watch people using Plague Doctor in 4-man-instances...man, THIS is useless overkill ! Tanks use that situational for special boss encounters in raids (maybe in the Bloodforge it might have a use for the last boss), where you meet real hard hitters, otherwise it's just overkill for a dumb "hey, look at my health bar" effect..

Most people who start tanking and do PUGs will experience 2 things:

    1) Wtf where did my ressources go ?
    2) Why to the hell doesn't our so-called healer bring a single bubble or shard to the table ?

So a purple Seducer + maybe Torug in heavy/sturdy is a nice and cheap start in my eyes.

At the current stage of the "fake-tank-issue" people will kiss the ground you walk if you are just able to taunt some stuff, stand still and take a beating. When you are able to throw a warhorn here and there and even build ressources to be able to pile up mobs (chains, portals, taunts + Swarm Mother) for nice concentrated AoE, you will be the god of ESO for them.

That highly depends on the dungeon. There is legit no way to get past some fights if your group's dps is like <15k. And if you're on legit tanky toon you can't add much to that.
    See fights like:
Gamyne in FG 2(unable to kill shades, refuse to res/spend whole fight ressing with boss' health not going down)
most of CoA 2 (I've actually seen people fail on Urata the Legion due to not enough aoe dps to kill her ads XD)
Bloodspawn in Spindle 2(though it has been a while since I've seen anyone fail there but I'm sure it's still possible)
Bogdan the Nightflame in EH 2 on hm
    Kena in WGT(mainly the atronachs)
    half of ICP
last boss in ROM(totem is actually a relatively high dps check, though admittedly most pug groups can't do vet ROM for more reasons than lacking dps. But totem can be a deal breaker for okay-ish on mechanics people with low dps)

...there're probably a few more but that's all that comes to mind atm. Most everything else, yeah you can sloooooooooowly solo it on a tank pretty much.
