So, has Zenimax ever explained the joke that is their interfaces?

Seriously, who actually put together the bank interface? The trader interface? The character build screen? These menus are a significant part of the game and are all very poorly-made.

The bank interface sorts items by categories that only make the smallest amount of sense. Instead of sorting gear by the set it belongs to (Julianos, etc), they sort it by which armor/weapon piece it is, which is really not helpful when you're trying to figure out how many pieces of X set you have collected and/or need. Instead, if I want to check how many pieces of X set I have, I have to literally scroll through my entire bank vault to see all of the items, and then either mentally keep track of how many there are in total or go so far as to write it down on a piece of paper or notepad on my phone/computer. This entire problem would be solved if we had a search bar, but it seems like Zenimax has forgotten they already have the searchbar technology in the game (friends list and guild roster) and refuse to implement it anywhere else it is DESPERATELY NEEDED.

The same problem happens with guild traders. No search bar. Want to look for shoes of the sun? Here, have literally every single pair of shoes listed in the shop. Have fun! WHY IS THERE NO SEARCH BAR FOR THE MASSIVE STORE SYSTEM? Add onto that, when you try to go hunting for motifs, because again, no search bar, you have to actually scroll through the entire guild trader's selection to have even a CHANCE of finding the page(s) you have not yet collected. I have trained my eyes to catch unlearned pages while scrolling down at maximum speed and even for me it can take upwards of 10 minutes to go through a big trader's inventory. This is inexcusable for a game that was made this recently and is still running.

If you've ever looked at your character's stat sheet, you will probably have realized that the main page showing your stats has a HUGE (literally half the screen, vertically and horizontally) blank area that could be showing more information. Some of the things I think would be nice to have there are (I am gong to order them vertically in the order I think they would go best, and would go underneath the main batch of stats):

Everything the list on the left side of the screen is currently being used for (Attribute points, active effects, title)
Everything inside the Character Description field
Dungeons/Trials Uncleared: Normal/Veteran
Coffer-Timer Tracker (This would be a godsend): All trial coffers and quests that give Coffers
Daily Reset Tracker (For planning purposes)

They can easily make room for all this by expanding the main window into the left and removing the one on the left entirely.

Has Zenimax ever said anything about updates to these horrendously antiquated menu screens?

If you are on PC, use addons for that:

All the UI in this game are pretty much sh!t.
queue up for a dungeon, go into the UI to browse say inventory, Back out and you have just declined the queue you have been waiting for.
Decline group queue is literally the same button as back in the UI (consoles)

wait, you are not able to reset and specify the buttons as you want, on console?
on pc you can do it.

Hit start instead of “b” or “o”. That closes the menu and doesn’t cancel the queue. Controller UI is great, I find. Trading UI needs a full overhaul though.

It's part of the Bethesda linage - immersive world, crappy, clunky, and useless interface.

Add in that it was developed to be played on consoles, and you get an interface that on the PC is total trash (though at least we can modify with add-ons, without them, I wouldn't play this game).

That's not so helpful when you're navigating menu categories that are nestled within other categories and press 'B' before you know the queue popped. They should just remove the popup that asks to accept/deny from within the menu and leave the radial accept/deny. Would make things so much easier.

The UI could use some work in many ways, especially the gamepad UI.

PS: A lot of addons do not work with gamepad ui either.

PC using a controller = you get horrid controller UI.

You can't even see your stats properly - like how much progress you're making in certain skills, etc. I've just started switching to k/m for stuff like banking, guild traders, even mail. And I use a controller because I'm old and my twitchy mouse hand isn't what it used to be ;)

The UI is freaking atrocious in this game. If that one single addon (ui grid menu thing, I can't remember what it's called now offhand. I haven't had my coffee yet) stopped working I would probably quit the game. To the author of that addon, you are amazing.

Whoever designed ESO UI interface deserves to be banned from the industry and to have his/her soul locked up inside a soul gem and shattered.

They really just need to swipe some add-on UI improvements and put them in the base game. Starting with Awesome Guild Store.

I spent over two hours the other day looking for Vicious Death/War Maiden gear in guild stores. A search bar would be a DRAMATIC quality of life improvement for this game -- especially for those of us who are on console and can't use add-ons. It shouldn't take more than two hours to find ten pieces of equipment... It just shouldn't.

The guild stores are the worst offenders. The rest I can live with, but my god, who decided a guild trader system WITHOUT a search function would be a good idea?!

I say the ESO interface is light year ahead of skyrim and oblivion, main issue is bank and guild stores.

As a console player my complaints about the UI are numerous. I would say the biggest issues are the lack of search functions for bank and trader. I would even settle for a simple check-box to filter between known and unknown motifs. The crafting interface is terrible, it constantly tries to get you to make 160 items instead of 150 for your writs if you aren't paying attention. If you are on a big piece like the robe and accidently sent it to 160 but then move it back to 150 and craft a 150 robe, when you then move to a smaller piece like gloves, they will still be on the 160 even though you changed it back to 160 on the robe and if you aren't paying attention you will waste 100 or so silk.

Add in the fact that our deconstruct list jumps around erratically when trying to deconstruct and you realize that the interfaces are actually actively getting worse.

The interfaces need an update and change. If ZoS does not currently have the time to focus on a project like this then they need to hire more employees until that time becomes available.

    And gamepad mode on PC.

This annoys me no end. If I'm crown I have to sit on that screen doing nothing, while the rest of the group fishes, waiting for the queue to finish.

You should see my game... most UI is gone and I now use the add-on for daytime/nighttime gamma and Reshade to fix the ambient light and color shades. It’s so much better. :P And I use a PS4 controller on PC. One keybind flips me to keyboard at the bank. Such potential this game has and is never seen on console.

While I agree that ESO has very substantial UI problems, especially compared with a TOR or a LOTRO...

...technically, the ESO UI had to be written for both PC and console. With a number of "social" components as well, which wouldn't be an issue for a Skyrim or an Oblivion.

I am not saying they did a wonderful job - they did not. However, when one proposes any changes to the UI, one must take into account - hey, can this translate across all platforms or just one?

Example. I would love to be able to search for a guild store item by typing its name (just like I do with TTC, for example). However, I cannot realistically expect Xbox or PS4 users to have the I/O to do so, which means that other solutions ought to be sought. [E.g. add 1-2 dropdown levels to drill from "all lightning staves" to "all lightning staves of endurance" based on actual guild store inventory at the time of the search. That is cross-platform, and helpful. And likely not technically challenging, though they would need to add a "store inventory check" function of some kind.]

But to belabor the point, beyond the cross-platform considerations, which are, of course, significant, I completely agree that there are many UI aspects that make one less than pleased over the course of a given gaming session.

We can already filter our friend and guild lists with a searchbar. the technology is already there.

@Ginabruno Can we get some kind of update on this? It's a very big QoL problem.

If they can't figure out how to make stacking work correctly,

-- (hitting the stack button, and being told that everything is stacked, only to have to go in and manually stack stuff - isn't quite as funny as the devs seem to think it is.) --

Are you seriously implying that a rational UI is do-able in this game?
