Know the difference between bugged and inability to get the achievement. It's very easy with force lock but rightfully a bit more difficult if you have to pick them all manually.

Wow, can you be any more arrogant? I did it in 25 seconds flat manually. I spent two hours doing it over and over. Restarted console and repeated. It is a bug.

I would think that insisting that one's skill is infallible, while being told repeatedly by others that there is no issue, would be more in line with a definition of arrogance.

Also, repeating it over and over may well cause issues to occur. Or, dropping/failing the quest may invalidate the achievement for that day.

Being treated as if I lack the "skill"(what a *** joke) to unlock chests yet seeing as EVERYONE responding to this thread can do it and on their "first try." Is childish. On that note...

    https://youtu.be/sizNjr64fQU

The problem is you need to actually loot the chests, or it doesn't update. Without the coins the quest doesn't advance. So, no, this isn't that the achievement is bugged, it's a PEBKAC issue.

The Achievement requirements do not state the requirement of looting each chest to obtain it. It states, "During the Trial of Five-Clawed Guile in Reaper's March, unlock all chests in 35 seconds or less."

To be honest, most of us are playing with autoloot turned on. It's a really convenient feature, and (as it turns out) a major part of being able to finish this achievement in time.

This is also the problem with assuming you're not at fault. When everyone is coming in and saying, "I didn't have a problem," then it's probably a good idea to start asking if you're doing something wrong. In this case, yeah, it was the lack of auto-loot.

Also, even with autoloot, I was not watching a run that would have gotten you the achievement. There was a bit too much fumbling on some of those locks, and you were razor close to the deadline when you finished the last one. Even with autoloot, you lose a few moments while pulling stuff out of the chests. I'm not saying, "you suck," just that this achievement does have a decent skill floor, and you're right on the edge of it. With autoloot, you should be able to get it in a couple tries.

And... yeah, I am kinda mouthy. When someone says, "I'm doing it right, it must be someone else's fault," and then turns their ire on the community. This may come as a shock, but I'm not a particularly nice person. Friendly, helpful, usually generous, but not particularly nice.

I didn't see any bragging or belittling. I saw people explaining that they got it on their first attempt so the achievement is not bugged and it is a problem on OP's end. Here is a tip for you. Turn on auto loot for quicker looting and force pick the simple chest if your legerdemain skill is decently leveled.

    @MasterSpatula

The easiest way to get this is find a friend, crack the chests together. Between the two of you, you should be able to get into all of them before the timer runs out. (With the caveat that this might not work exactly the way you're hoping.) But it is worth the attempt.

Worst case, if you've got a buddy who's good with the lockpicking minigame, you can ask them to do it for you, (again, team up, and they pick the locks). Or you can try practicing on whatever locks you can find, scattered around the game world.

Other than that, your best bet might be to spend time stealing and fencing and selling as much as you can. Find abandoned farm houses, barns, werehouses, and just take everything. All those worthless provisioning mats, anything that's not nailed down. Sell it or launder it, and raise your legerdemain skill line. One of its passives will make forcing locks easier, and you can effectively cut the easy lock off the list. Also (if you've never worked on legerdemain) grab the Trafficker passive. This directly affects how quickly you can level legerdemain.

This isn't an easy achievement, but it is doable. Just get some more practice in, wherever you can. I would recommend spending more time with higher difficulty locks. They have a shorter time limit, and will help you hone your picking abilities more than simple ones. But, that's about the best advice available, sorry.

Also, yeah, @FLuFFyxMuFFiN's right. @MasterSpatula Turn on auto-loot right now. You don't need to have stolen-auto-loot on, and probably don't want it active. But the normal version will make this a lot easier, and cuts down on a lot of post combat looting management. You'll also probably want loot history turned on (or if you're on PC, you can use the Loot Drop addon). It's not necessary for the achievement in any way, but it means you still know what you're getting from autolooting enemy corpses.

I have done it in the time frame to get the achievement without an problem at all. The only time I didn't clear it in under 35 seconds was because the Simple chest wouldn't force unlock for me.

Man.... i've had that happen too.

Like, i get the advanced and intermediate chests opened, then i would force the lock on the simple one, I know it's all RNG but surely forcing a lock at a 25% chance shouldn't take 27 failed attempts in a row. :/

I did it twice and got it done, but no achievement... I didn't know I had to do it in 35 secs until I looked at my journal. I did it really fast though. I'll try again next time. Do any skills help besides "Force Lock"?

Force the lock on the Simple chest first. If it succeeds, continue on. If it fails, wait for the 1 minute timer to end, then start over. You can restart the chest opening so long as you don't finish the last chest.

Well, I'm fairly experienced with lockpicking after two years in this game. When I was done with my third attempt, I honestly felt like I had done as well as could reasonably be expected, so I was surprised not to succeed.

Another point, I have always felt that the "harder" locks were actually easier than the "easier" ones. Maybe it's the increased speed of more advanced locks giving me some feeling of advantage, but I've always, since release, found that I break picks on Simple locks far more frequently than on Master ones.

Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

I haven't read all the posts, but if anyone hasn't already provided the tip, here's a bit of help:

Lock tumblers have 4 positions each. Untouched, 1/3rd down, 2/3rd down, and fully down. Just keep an eye on whether it starts to jiggle as it reaches one of the first two marks. If it passes the 2/3rd down and is still going, you know it's fully depressed.

Once you know that, getting a feel for manually picking the lock is a snap. With a little practice, you'll be able to unlock master chests easily.

There's also a little bit of luck involved in where the tumblers will catch. Sometimes you get a chest where the tumblers will all unlock most of the way up. Other times they might all be at the bottom. That can cost you a few seconds.

I was grouped with a guildie and we both had the quest active. I did all the lockpicking to finish it within the time limit and yet he got the achievement (even though he did nothing) and I didn't. It was very odd!

Next time I did it I got it though, and I didn't use any force locks on either attempt.

If he was the group leader and didn't share the quest (J menu, right-click the quest, select 'Share'), then it might happen that you do the work but the group leader gets the reward.

I was the group leader, but he was the one who shared the quest with me and we both had it active - we both got a reward from Breda afterwards. I'm not sure if it's relevant or a separate bug, but prior to that happening he wasn't receiving any of the New Life quests that I shared with him but he could share them with me with no problems.

The only thing I can think of that might have bugged it out was the fact that he'd just race changed that character, but I don't know why that would effect it? I'm just out of ideas it was very strange! I suppose it doesn't matter now though because I got the achievement the next attempt and it appears the issue I had with the achievement issue is unrelated to the OP's.

I got the achievement easily xD even making some mistakes breaking a lockpick then forgetting to actually picking up the coins in the chest. I even tried to force break the simple chest which didn't go well.

I've got this achievement on 2 chars and only way I was able to do so was by forming a party group of 3. One peep per chest plenty of time.

When I tried to do it on my own I damn well kept panicking about the time and often ending with a bounty for accidentally clicking on crated goods behind the middle chest. :/

They're both pretty easy, unless you're just not very good at picking locks. In which case, I guess you could try getting a bunch of lockpicks and forcing the lock.

As for Bergama, if you're a class with a movement speed skill like sorcerers, wardens or nightblades, then it's pretty straight forward. Light the first brazer, spam the skill as needed while running to the others. If you're not, you can use something like Rapid Maneuver or drink a potion. A little Blessed Thistle and Scrib Jelly should do the trick. Namira's Rot works too. If all else fails, join a group.

Know the difference between bugged and inability to get the achievement. It's very easy with force lock but rightfully a bit more difficult if you have to pick them all manually.

I hadn't put any skillpoints into loksmith last year, didn't knew it was that useful. But still got the achievement on my first try. It's absolutely doable.
This year I did it with my new Warden, forced the simple chest (took two tries, even with 4 points in locksmith .. I'm not a very lucky person) and picked the other two. First try achievement.
But since I'm really fond of the lockpicking-minigame, I'm very "trained".

I can't seem to get the pins on the first try. I always have to see how far down they go first, then do the pin. I very rarely fail to pick a chest (even Master) in the required time, but doing all three in under 35 seconds, with the delay while autoloot does it's thing, is not easy for me. I think I did a lot of them last year by forcing. If forcing did not work in a couple of tries, I stopped and let the quest recent. I have hundreds of lockpicks, so not much of an issue.

As for Bergama, last year I did Lava Foot Soup-And-Saltrice plus a Potion of Speed and sprinted. As soon as the quest marker over the brazier disappears, it is safe to leave for the next. While the lady says to hurry to her, the timer stops after the last one is lit, so it does not matter whether you start with the closest fire, or end with it.
