Is this technically exploiting?

There's a particular room in Coldharbor where you can pick up a bunch of gold freely during a quest. And logging out and back in again respawns the gold...

I may be incredibly late to this realization, but obviously this is a cheesy way to farm gold. I just dont want it to actually be a conduct violating way.

Yeah thats obvious because of the such small amounts picked up. But its pretty much the same as farming stealing locations using the same method, and my GM told me about that once.

How much gold is it? if its just say 200 you get money far faster stealing or farming. If its 2000 it start getting interesting.

Same here, more fun ways to get gold and also give xp.
now one "exploit" i always use is checking the containers in the Rawl'kwa bank, before logging out, just if its something nice. The guards don't arrest you and bounty would time out before you re log on character.

Even if its not technically against the rules, after a few tries and only around a 180g haul each its incredibly ineficient.

But again the discussion still continues. Is the logging out/in to respawn loot technically an exploit?

No. You also can log out/in to gather same Survey place if you have multiple of them. Or run away some distance and come back aswell.

The best 'exploit' I have found is just to play the game as its intended, have fun - and your gold magically increases - all by itself!!

I use logout or wayshrines to get out of cyrodiil and to get mail with bought guild store items faster sometimes.

Dont feel like Im exploiting.

If you log in and out of a computer game repeatedly to acquire pixelmoney you have a problem

Be careful stating what ZOS does and does not track.

ZOS will ban people (presumably) for standing before a resource node and farming it once every 5 minutes all day long. There are a billion better ways to farm resources than that. Well, maybe a million. I tend to exaggerate. If someone was to set up this condition and then logout and login all day long to farm that gold, that is something they would probably take action on.

Because this involves logging out and logging back in, this has a higher profile and it is relatively easy to track and monitor this sort of thing. Repeatedly logging out and logging back in is not specifically mentioned in the ToS, but it is probably still considered abusing the game server, which is. I would not be surprised if this were tracked in some manner.

Report it (privately), don't share it with your friends (or anyone else), and move on (and don't do it again).

I`be always been under the impression that all ingredient crates/barrels respawn upon login.

Random node farming would make you far more gold.

The gold sellers aren't going to be buying anything with their gold, obviously. Inflation is created by the players who buy the gold, but they'd be buying it regardless of how it was obtained. At least if the botters farm the gold this way, they don't oversupply the market with mats (inflation is happening either way).

It would be great if gold sellers would go away altogether, but this botting method is the lesser of two evils, by far.

For what it’s worth.....
People call farming motifs ...farming for a long time at release for a whole year. That method was going to places with many containers and logging in and out over and over again

In contrast others are saying this example is an exploit. And last month folks got banned for skipping bosses for an achievement and skin.

There is a lack of consistency with ZOS so who knows. Maybe @ZOS_GinaBruno and the gang would care to chime in as it seems these things are circumstantial

This sounds like nothing more than log in/out container farming, which if I recall zos said was fine years ago. I don't feel like digging up anything on that but your free to search that and make a guess whether or not this is the same. Either way it is less effective than doing it to an area loaded with containers.

I'd love to see that statement from them. That really isn't something that is easy to search for, either.

The thing about it is it would be hard to make it bannable. Containers, as far as I know, do not respawn like nodes. Where would the line be drawn for you to reloot them since the only way for them to not be empty again is to leave then come back? Logging out does this as does changing zones. What would constitute exploiting, 30 second wait, 1 minute wait, 5 minute wait? And even then if you wanted to give it a set amount of time, there would be a loop hole. Log all characters at that spot then log out of one and onto another over and over.

It would be easier for them to just give containers an actual timer per character or account, if they wanted the activity changed.
