I'm thinking of coming back to ESO, the one thing that caused me to leave was the frequency and length of server downtime (I've been playing GW2, it's not as fun as ESO cause I love tanking, but the severs never go down). I was going to jump on and pick up ESO again but got a message saying they were taking the servers down... is this bad luck or have things not changed?

Sweet thanks for that, I will pick it back up again then.

Though GW2 uses microservers so it has been down for about 5hrs total in the last 3years, there is no weekly maintenance... just wish other games would do the same.

Wish zos ran the same server set up (never that bad of lag issues in gw2 compared to eso) and to copy their wvw set up for cyrodiil. Then id be a happy camper

I think ESO has minimal downtimes compared to many games. And welcome back! Lotta new "old" folks seem to be arriving recently. Enjoy! :)

Well if you're an oceanic player, eso has the worst downtime of any game, as they are the only developer ive personally have come across that put it right in the middle of our Australia/new zealand peak time.

Felt that gw2 were the most considerate when it came to this also when it comes to lag and server quality, again feel that gw2 were miles ahead of zenimax, so zos could learn a few things from those guys?

You can see maintenance schedules usually on the forums. The game has added a good amount of content depending on when you left. If you have a tanky be sure to try the new AS trial :) You will have a blast.

GW2 does do weekly maintenance its just done in the back ground and the game does do regular updates they tell you you need to re-log the game because all updates and maintenance is done in the back ground. Its really cool tech they have for there servers and yeah I wish ESO used the same but ESO uses the "Hero Engine" which does not allow for that kind of tech unless the devs rewrite the code and set it up them selves.

Most weekly maintenance schedules usually go down every Tuesday-Wednesday night around 8:00PM and last no less than 1-2 hours, which is why I pay close attention to the forums as well as the in-game MOTDs by Zenimax to ensure I play the game at the right times.
If you see me anywhere. Know that I am sitting back with a bag of popcorn, watching as ESO burns the goodwill of its player base with practices that only disrespects the players time like it did to me and many others...

If a game does not respect your time, best thing to do is move on from it and find something else.

What I really hate is that your rugby matches are broadcast at like 3-4 A.M. here on the U.S. east coast...why cant the matches be on when Im awake you're asleep?
