Opinion on monetization

For the most part a lot is done well, all cosmetics, crown crates, housing buyable 2 ways, furniture, sub model etc however there are some things that I personally, and some others feel are too limiting.

Warden and imperial: Though not P2W its an EA style tactic limiting players out of a big part of the game, ironically saying play your way. This is as someone who owns both packs.

Artificial limits. Housing and TCs are set purposely too low without eso+ and should be changed. Housing does take space yes, but with that logic someone should pay extra to unlock more houses since all the extra furnishing takes space.

Really? So you think paying upwards of 30 bucks for a mount that is a simple reskin is justified? You think Zenimax listing the DWEMER motif for FIFTY DOLLARS' WORTH OF CROWNS is justified?

Zenimax's pricing on just about everything in the crown store is absolutely ludicrous. They're definitely the greediest, most anti-consumer company I've ever seen.

I wouldn't mind anything that ZoS does in terms of crates or the crown store if I felt like they were actually investing some of the profits back into the game. Expanding the studio, upgrade on servers, among other things that could be done. Hiring more people to look back on old content that doesn't work while also having employees that can work on the new content. If they did these things I would fully support everything they do with the crates and the store. However, nothing has changed in terms of performance, if anything, its gotten worse. This is insulting as hell to me. This isn't a new game. It's been out for years and its been generating revenue for them for years and it still runs like **** on Xbox.

I would like to redirect you to Bungie and Activi$ion.

They're the worst, most greedy partnership in the industry. They just released a DLC yesterday for their game Destiny 2; and with the sheer lack of content, and how they've expanded their in-game cash shop, all for the premium price they're charging...

Hell, by comparison, Zenimax is spoiling us.

On topic: I just think that the Scam Crates need to go away. There's no place for gambling like that in the video game industry, and it's a cancer on video games as a whole.

And because someone got butt-hurt about my opinion on this in the recent past, I want to reiterate that this is purely my own opinion.

    My $0.02.

Monetization has had no effect on me. I don't care about cosmetics very much, don't buy crates, don't enjoy decorating an inert house.

I sub, 6 months at a time, and now have tens of thousands of crowns just sitting there. I bought a mount and a pet from the store, in the 4 years I've been playing.

To me, the game's enjoyment is just playing it. I enjoy being in the world, trying out new characters, fishing, crafting, exploring, doing the occasional dungeon, or Dolmen.

My biggest complaint is not monetization, but the idea that an endless grind for RNG is somehow "content".

You don't have to buy them. Free crates, free mounts with content and the normal horses. Also, have you seen EA p2w stuff.

ESO is monetized a lot. I MEAN A LOT: B2P, subscription, p2p dlcs and expansions, crown store, and gamble boxes.
Mostly of the time it's overpriced as well.

Does it really affect the game? Cosmetics not at all, I mean it's cool to have a cool mount and a sharp house but they don't affect gameplay at all. On the otherside expensive dlcs and expansions may drive players away indeed.

I'm okay with monetization. I also have a lot of sitting crowns that I don't have what to spend for because I don't think that anything really worth right now. I did spent 15k crowns on crown crates because astronach mounts did look neat and sometimes I get a costume or a hat.

I also pay sub+ because I really enjoy the conveniences.

    Absolutely, since they're cosmetics. i.e, Non-essential luxuries.

The 50K banker and merchant are a bit more annoying, since they actually have a useful function. But they're still not remotely necessary.

You clearly haven't seen many f2p MMOs, then. There's vastly worse.

Like the games that sell temporary bank/backpack/etc space. i.e, It runs out after 30 days and you have to re-buy it. And the only way to get permanent inventory upgrades is rare drop in loot crates.

Or the games that have upgrade systems that can destroy your gear outright on a fail - unless you buy consumable insurance items from the cash shop!

Heck, I vaguely recall.... Perfect World?... had mounts that started at $30, and then needed $20-50+ in upgrade materials to get them to full speed.

Tried an Aeria game briefly (before fleeing in terror from it). Rented inventory, many simultaneous loot boxes with awful odds, upgrade boosters in the cash shop, honest-to-god p2w pvp power in the cash shop.... and a monthly "contest" on the website that gave you bonuses when you cleared $$$$ spending milestones. Like "ask a GM for a favor" if you spent more than $1000 in a month.

Yeah, no. Zenimax is nothing compared to a lot of the junk out there.
