Why Warden?

Is it because Vvardenfell starts with VVARDEN?

That's speculation at best ... but why not?

Warden (with that name) was planned class in early stages of game, but for whatever reasons it that was cut from the final release.
So the name is only coincidence- fun coincidence tho ;)

VVarden fell down from up on Baar Dau
Striding the cliff and sailing 'morrow's wind
Missin' the docks leading to High Rock

Dove for the water and grinned

From what I've seen from early beta testers, the Warden was never really functional in beta. There were issues with the animal companion skill line that were never fully ironed out, and the result is substantially different. You could ask someone like @SirAndy for clarification, though.

That is correct, the Warden was a playable class during very early beta but unfortunately it was completely broken and pretty much unusable.

I'm glad it's back and working much better this time.

i heard that vvardenfell should have been wardenfell but the original creator didnt have a working w key and so used two vs instead, making Warden an obvious choice

Oooo @SirAndy, I heard rumour long long ago that aside from the Warden class they had another class but it never was brought to beta. Have you heard anything about that?

Yeah at the bottom! An unknown sixth class was also planned.. hmmm

Let's take a look at original DD classes, and ESO equivalents:
Fighter: Fighter guild&many weapon skill lines&DK
    Rogue: NB&dark brotherhood&thief guild
    Wizard:Destro&mage guild
Babarian: 2h &dual wield skill lines. Maybe werewolf count too.
    Cleric&Paladin&Monk : Templar&Restro
    Warlock&Sorcerer: Sorcerer
    Ranger: bow&Warden
    Druid:Warden
    Bard.

Only the bard class is missing and really in ESO it suits more a world skill line than a true class. And let's take a look at the “role” our classes have when they are designed (I know you can fit other role in, but still):
    DK: Tank
    Templar:Heal
    Sorc: AOE damage
    NB: DOT damage
    Warden: Support(buffer)

Warden's role (I repeat I know any class can do any role, but here I'm referring to the main design thought) is already kinda awkward since we don't have 5ppl content, and missing tank/heal/dps for a support isn't ideal.

Still Warden is still kinda all around and provide the “natural&ice” class we've been missing. But have a look after we know we really don't need a sixth class

Only rumors and speculation, most of which pointed towards a hunter/ranger type class.

No, that was separate from the Warden. The Warden already existed in beta.

What was (still is) missing was a second medium armor defensive thief related class.
Hence the rumors for a Hunter/Ranger type class.

    Light Armor
    Offensive: Sorcerer
    Defensive: Warden

    Medium Armor
    Offensive: Nightblade
    Defensive: Hunter/Ranger

    Heavy Armor

    Offensive: Dragon Knight
    Defensive: Templar

Melee magic weapons are still 'missing'. I´d like to see a new weapon skill with magic weapons, maybe iron knuckles-style but magic. Maybe with a monk-style fighter, more of a medium armour warrior that isn´t so focused on stealth.

It isn´t lore-unfriendly either, we have unarmed in the game, just not as a skill, and it was a skill in Morrowind.

I've always wondered about the Warden. I mean while played Skyrim or Oblivion etc. I have never asked myself "You know, I want a character with a bear"

    No.... not "but still"..

Classes in this game fulfill themes and playstyle types, not role emphasis. Warden was added to the game not to fufill a missing peice to group compositions. It was added because that particular class archetype ie. Nature, frost, wildlife was not represented for player access, nothing more nothing less. Wardens were never EVER billed as a "buffer". Rich lambert labeled them as a well rounded class but that was PR more than anything. They know then as well as the informed playerbase does now, that any class coming into this game that does not produce effective results in AT LEAST one of the 3 roles is DOA. Classes in eso are desinged to perfrom in all three roles in different various ways. Balance and tuning issues aside, your class / role rundown is a complete false assumption.
