There is 0 purpose to raising the gear level cap unless they completely re-do how leveling and scaling works in the game.

As im sure you and everyone else reading this knows, the way this game works is through scaling - the content in the game is 160, and anyone who isnt 160 scales to that content. This applies to new content, and old content. If you raise the new gear cap to say 180, making the content in the game 180, the player will also scale to 180. There is no increase in power. Your character will not feel any stronger. Sure, your stats will be higher, but so will everyone and everything elses, so all you did was take the current power level and shift it to utilize different numbers. And it's not like there is new content you can do now or something; the game scales.

Unless ZoS overhauls the entirety of what they implemented in 1T, this will never happen

IF it for some reason does, it proves that they dont understand what i just explained. And i cant believe that a multi-million dollar company with a team of developers wouldnt understand this very simple mathematical fact

Until they change the way that content scales with the player since 1T, this would be the worst possible addition to the game yet. Our characters would be instantly nerfed over night and we would have to grind out a whole new level of gear to be at the EXACT SAME power level we were before. Would cause myself and many others to quit the game for good. Sad!

As others have said... a gear level cap would ONLY make sense if the scaling system was changed... currently there is absolutely no reason to raise the gear cap. I've always been a proponent of gear level raising, but this was based on other MMOs whose content increased in difficulty with each DLC... currently in ESO, gear level raising would not make sense.

If for example they raised the cap to CP 200 for gear, most of us would already have the level, but would have to farm a new material type to craft new armor, farm new jewelry and/or armor, but we would get more power from it.

The problem with this is that they are already nerfing things left and right because of the champion system. They would end up having to do a whole other re-balancing patch just to fix all the things that were made OP by the CP 200 gear. Making a lot of effort for us and them only to get back where we started.

If they were wanting to go through another gear balancing effort I would rather they just make everything that is currently CP160 into Level 50 and get rid of the CP based "gear gate" altogether.

Would introduce a senseless grind since the game is already scaled. At the start there were gear levels because the zones themselves had levels. It made sense to add a new tier when a new zone was released. But since One Tamriel all zones are basically the same level. Even if they introduce CP200 or CP300 gear it will have proportionally the same stats as CP160 has today but CP160 will have reduced stats. This has been done in the past each time they introduced new veteran ranks. For example when IC was released and the cap was raised to VR16, the new gear had the same stats as the old VR14, but VR14 stats were reduced in order to force people into grinding VR15-16 mats. Also it took some time between IC and One Tamriel for all group content to be scaled to VR16/CP160. Craglorn trials stayed at VR14 for almost a year. It's hard to think why ZoS would basically backtrack on that, since the game has become much more successful once everything was scaled. One Tamriel patch has probably seen the largest influx of new players since release.

Scaling exists. So by raising armour gear cap, pve mobs will also gain a raise. You might do more damage, but the mobs will have more health, maybe more mitigation, you will have more survivability, but mobs will hit harder. Same goes for PvP. People will deal more damage, but will have more health, more resistance, bigger shields. Any benefit a higher gear cap might have will be countered. People would just have to regrind stuff like MSA weapons.

Only if there will be new things and i won't have to regrind the old stuff(R.I.P. vMA).

The reason I made this pool is to have as many people tell their opinion which I assume is mostly a negative one regarding the matter...just in case as I am sure ZoS is reading this and so they will see our opinion regarding it so they wont make the mistake to do this wonderful thing...on the other hand they might now how to punish us if we misbehave >:3

I don't want a new gear cap. In fact I don't really want new gear sets. I realize that sounds like a stick in the mud but frankly I just want a balanced enjoyable game. The game is the experience, not the crap that drops off of dead monsters. I'm much more intrigued by rewards like the clockwork dummy thingie (too bad pvp doesn't get anything cool like that). Give us cool stuff to work for, not necessarily the next greatest OP nonsense.

No... No... and thrice NO!!!

For two main reasons:

1. There is already a massive grind in the game... for everything.... adding an extra re-grinding of gear etc which changes regularly anyway is just pointless apart from annoying the hell out of everybody and driving people away.

2. Power creep..... there is already a lot via CP which is leading to other things being nerfed.... people don't like nerfs, but if they increase the gear cap then that will be SUCH a big power increase across the board that there will have to be big nerfs elsewhere to keep any semblance of balance. Tis would be unpopular a smany won't se ethe bigger picture, only the nerfs.... so they are better keeping the gear cap as it is.

I would rather they focus on getting one system for progression working smoothly than have two at once.
