This has been happening to me the last 2 patches and I have to run a repair each time to resolve the problem, anyone know what's up?
I do run as admin, and eso is (obviously) not running when I'm updating, so that takes care of the 2 most obvious causes :/
You just going to stand there like a lemon?

What happens if you go straight to your install directory and launch the exe without the launcher?

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online\game\client
    eso.exe or eso64.exe respectively..
I do this whenever I see the Launcher telling me I need to repair and it logs in anyway without all that nonsense and no further problems.

4th repair seems to have worked, but now my play button isn't doing anything. Better than nothing, at least I can play.

Shut down your pc and boot it up again, I had something like this
Before judging a man walk a mile in his shoes.
    After that who cares?
They're a mile away and you've got their shoes.

Great, did a reboot and the error went away and I can hit PLAY now but as soon as the game loads I get a crash box. ZOS, you guys are incompetent! I get and understand maintenance times and hate those who ask for compensation for that and even for this I won't ask for that but come on now, I've been playing again for about a year (played at launch for a while then had to take a break but came back a year ago) and have been seeing these issues every other patch/update. You guys need to stop focusing on how many times you can reskin and sell something for an absurd amount of money and actually FIX YOUR GAME!

1 update, 6 repairs, and 3 hours of my life later.... Finally able to log in.

During this process I've disabled my firewall, realtime scanning, and UAC, rebooted my PC, as well as moved my Zenimax Online folder out of Program Files x68 into a separate games folder.

Dunno if any of this might help you @BloodWolfe, but I'll keep replying incase.

Ya all of that is standard for me. I always keep firewall disabled on my gaming machine along with realtime scanning and uac. I never install games to default and have a "Games" folder so no game is installed into one of the "Program Files" folders.

I have no issues with maintenance, updates, etc... but I expect a level of competence and these sorts of things being worked out by now and not going over a year with no acknowledgement or attempt to repair the issue(s).

This really needs to be looked into, there was a huge thread about it after the last update when I started having this issue.

Make sure before a patch that you disable all your addons, some of the problems players experience in logging in after a patch may well be related to addons that won't have been updated yet.

What OS are you using ? I have Windows 10 and I have the same issue. Rebooting PC solves the problem for me (after reboot it either "clicks" and download the patch normally or it automatically verifies all game files (repair) and it works).

Also I don't think It is an anti-virus issue. On one machine I have default Windows Defender, on the other I have Mcafee. The update problem exists on both. One of my friends is running G-Data anti-virus and has the same problems with updates.

It all started after Morrowind patch. I used those anti-viruses before and there was no problem with game updates. So I think it is on ZOS end.

My comment was aimed more at the posts here from @BloodWolfe and anyone else who crashes immediately on finally logging in after a patch. I appreciate that addons won't be the cause of problems updating or repairing the installation.

Had the same issue since hotr time yesterday. Though before then I would make sure that computer didn't idle over night. The launcher seems to hate that. I would then repair and restart computer. This seemed to do it.
