For those of you who say it works fine, what skills are you using? What morphs? I feel so fumbly with my skill setup and all.
I recently swapped my stamblade to a magblade.
magblade is much easier to play if you have played other magicka toons.
stamblade requires a lot of skill and I have fumbly fingers

Strife (first ability in Siphoning tree). Any morph of this one works, though I prefer Funnel Health. The second to last and last ability in the Siphoning tree, Strikes and Drain P morphed to Siphoning Attacks and Sap Essence, are also amazing.
Lastly, Path of Darkness (3rd ability, Shadow tree) morphed to Refreshing Path.
Strife is your spammable single target damage ability, Sap Essence for AoE (it also heals! \o/), and just keep Refresh'ng Path active wherever you're running around.
That's pretty much all you'll ever need. Fill out the other slots as you like.

Along the same lines, for any amount of mobs more then 1. Refreshing path. Elemental wall (whichever one). Strife for dot/heal. Spam sap essence. Great aoe and decent aoe heal. Most normal mobs you don’t even need to bother with the strife and one or two saps will kill the group.
And unless you are getting hit real hard, the dot from standing in refreshing path, the aoe heal from sap, and the dot from strife will keep you from having any really problems, unless you are completely overrun. It is also good if you are in a group with a bad/starting healer since the more mobs nearby the more sap heals. Which can really help out a bad pug group. Which is actually why I ran my magNB for so long, it didn’t really matter what the rest of the group was doing. Decent healing with decent damage. Sure you don’t set any records but you won’t be the reason for the wipes either.
Of course there is more to being a really good nb, but this is enough to keep you alive And a good start. Once you get use to it you can add the nb buffs and or shuffle out some of the heals for more damage.

Strife is direct damage with a heal over time attached,
it has no damage over time effect
Cripple is the single target damage over time skill from the Siphoning tree

“Insane” with Alcast accent
With the passives fire staff will boost your single target skills and lightning staff will boost your area skills. And what's with the medium armor?

The meta YouTube guys have videos out with conflicting CP allocation. Which has led me to build my NB how I see fit. I solo world bosses and dps/heal dungeons with her and she does great. It has by far become my favorite class to play.
I run 5 piece Julianos and 5 piece Mother's Sorrow with a fire focus (dunmer)
Ohhh crafted armor sets, me like-y. Good to know, I redid EVERYTHING, skills, CP and magicka/health point location and I'm testing her out just out and about, she does good now. I suspect with practice and once I get enough mats for those sets, I'll do even better.
I kinda did a combo of almost every comment here, I got duel swords and fire staff with the follow skills.
Bar one with duel swords: Impale, Funnel Health, Siphoning Attacks, Grim Focus (not morphed yet but will once I can), Mirage
Bar two with fire staff: Unstable Wall Of Fire, Crippling Grasp, Refreshing Path, Summon Shade (again not morphed but will once I can) Reaper's Mark.
Got 10 in Health, 54 in Magicka, CP wise I got 76 points in Arcanist, 76 in Spell Erosion and 76 in Medium Armor Focus (might change this later when I can make a decent set of light armor in the sets listed in the quote above.)
