Of course when I went vamp years ago people would camp the area you could get bites from NPC's, it was a mess for a while so from that an in game market arose. Its a great example of an MMO economy born out of supply and demand and ZOS screwed the whole thing up.

But when people complain about price, or rather when they did (you get the free now anyway) I would tell them "fine go pay real money in the store" they coughed up 5k NP.

As a matter of fact, for my expert opinion and being the last rational poster left on these boards I will expect 5K from each of you.

When the complaints about griefing started because "people" would camp the areas where the npc spawns for both werewolf and vampire appeared, and kill all of them immediately so people would have no alternative but to give in to extortion/pay the griefers [and some of them scammed the player paying anyway, simply stealing their gold without giving the bite. the charges then were around 50k, which was a lot of gold at early release], ZOS had some options, imo. Remove vampire and werewolf from the game to stop the "people" from attempting to charge players [mandatory sub at this point] for content they were paying a sub to access. Roll back or reset every werewolf or vampire then flood the zones with so many spawns the griefers/extortionists couldn't kill all of them so players could get a chance at getting bitten. [Wouldn't have been fair to the players who had gotten bitten "in the wild" or who paid the extortionists for the bite]. Or.....Put the skill lines in the crown store so players would have a final option to get the skill line no matter what. Of course they went with the crown store. Thank the special snowflakes who decided to make it nearly impossible to get bitten without paying because they decided to restrict access to and profit off content everyone was paying a sub for.

You, and others like you are the reason I'll never charge for a bite, and will stop what I'm doing to go give a bite instead of letting someone think they have to pay. If they send me gold I send it back to them. I'll take tips for crafting gear/food/glyphs/potions, but never for a bite.

I give freely what I received freely.

If I were to bite, however, I'd probably do it for free. Primarily due to laziness (extortion is hard work it is!), but also from a "sociability" standpoint (i.e. better potential outcome in MMOs if you help-all-strangers vs. hurt-all-strangers unless the game is already completely broken, which I have seen...).

Well. Not totally for free. I'd first make the person aver to me in zone chat that they bathe regularly. I have my standards.

I always give free bites once a week (only rarely), ever since launch.

Exactly, plus wasn't there a forum policy that prohibited players from "Selling Bites" (Because I'm pretty sure there was, I stick to that rule.)

I'm not a vamp anymore, but I used to give bites to guildies or randos in the shrine when I was bored.

You can't use the forums as an open air bizarre to list items you want to sell or buy. Additionally, there's no trading sub-board. You can arrange giving bites away on here (there used to be a megathread on the subject, not sure what's happened to it.)

There was also an issue way back at launch with people taking payment for a bite (the running market was around 40k) and then taking off instead of biting the other player. To be clear, that is scamming, and according to staff, players who'd been doing that were getting banned for the behavior.

Beyond that you are allowed to charge for bites if you want to. To be clear, I've taken payments for bites, but I've never been out there saying, "no, you need to pay me X amount or I won't bite you." As long as they're actually receiving the service they're paying for, and the service is permitted by the game (which, in this case, you know, the actual bite), it's fine.

Of course, back when the quests didn't scale down, I'd usually spend more time talking prospective wolves and bats out of getting bites, rather than actually chowing down.

After a while though you do end up with more than enough skill points to do whatever you want. I still haven't collected all the skyshards in all the pve zones, so I have more skill points out there to collect. There are a few skills I never use, so no reason to spend points in them, and that applies to weapons, gear, and class. Why bother to take a dk or nb ability I won't use? Result: unspent skill points. The newest two characters aren't ww yet, but I will eventually get to them, spend the extra time in the portal to level my skill to at least 6, and be able to spread the bite for free with those two characters as soon as I get the skill point to do so.

It was way more than that. Back at launch, Wolf Bites were going for +40k.
