well, from other reviews thus far it seems to not be a one x issue but, as expected, an ESO issue...have you tried any other games at this time?

First impressions of a single game that has not even been optimized yet.

    Sounds fair.

    FGS dont you people READ!!!

this was a first impression of an xbox one x, with NO other changes and NO update... i even said IT WILL BE DIFFERENT WHEN THE GAME UPDATES

Now why this is was interesting for me - and i assume other people, as they may be running older xboxs and were wondering what the difference is between old and new, if nothing else changed but the hardware.

WHEN THE UPDATE ARRIVES, A PROPER IMPRESSION CAN BE GIVEN

does that make it any clearer?

You chose a poorly optimized game for a first impression of the one x. Why not test another game or two instead? Youre making people think the console itself sucks when really the engine of ESO is what sucks.

I got my Xbox One X today. I play this game on PC, but I used to have it on xbox, so I had to download it to see how it runs on the mighty X. WOW. I am blown away. I play on a 4K TV, it has fantastic graphics and runs very smoothly, far better than it runs on my PC. Great job ZOS, very impressive!

ok so got home, downloaded, then had to pop out. just got in.

so far , ive managed about 10 mins.

the game has crashed 4 times.
ive had to quit it because of "unusually long loading times" so is now rebooting for a 5th time.

    the water looks great.
    the draw distance is improved.
the load times if they have immproved , its not noticable
    it SEEMS a little smoother.

otherwise, everything else looks EXACTLY the same as what it did on my old xbox over the xb1x.

right now, im thinking the xb1x is a huge waste of money.

I have said this before and I will say it again if you brought the xbox One X for ESO you wasted your money.

There's no way it looks the same as it did on your old xbox or even close to it. Not if you're using a 4k monitor or TV. I know because I've been playing on a PS4 Pro for the last year and it's a very noticeable upgrade in visuals going from a blurry 1080p to 4k. And the X1X even has additional graphics settings turned up beyond the Pro.

i wouldnt say its that much improve at all to be hoenst. now been playing an hour.
i have to say , the water is AMAZING. much better. the draw distance, meh, its ok.
the FPS is battles is much better than it was.
the close up stuff, pretty much all the same.
the crashign seems to have calmed down (probably due to it just being busy) - although theres a weird bug im getting with combat numbers.

That's good can't wait to play Halo 5 and gears on the 1x.ESO issues is with the code and the devs optimization of the game.

I might try BDO when it comes out the 1x maybe they Will optimize the game better for the 1x.

People think its going to be a "ps5" of sorts but that is a major confusion and misinterpretation. Generation console entries for the most part are not a thing anymore.

What is happening, is we have reached a point where diminishing returns is kicking in on graphical fidelity to the point where the gap between 2 generations of consoles' graphiclal evolution is shrinking. To the point where a stand alone next gen console has less and less to really offer as time goes on. This is screen tech in color production and resolution are now front seat. Couple this with the standard architecture powering consoles now is basically mini pcs in the box which means game devs can easily more than ever before, create their game with a wide range of graphical scaling to accommodate which console it will be played on.

The next PlayStation is simply going to be another one x with some more muscle, or added features, thus it will simply play games at a visually superior setting while still belonging to this "generation" of the avaialble video game library. I dont belive they will call it a ps5 as that would confuse casual consumers in thinking that it is an entirely new platform which it most definitely is not going to be.

Consoles are slowly morphing into PC's, with smaller updates on a yearly or biennual schedule.

It was bound to happen. For years consoles have adopted PC like operating systems, connectivity and more and more powerful hardware and PC's have adopted the ability to be in the living room, connect to big screens etc...

At the same time hardware evolutions are slowing down to the point that consoles are releasing hardware that is no longer multiple generations behind PC's.

The combat numbers bug is becouse you play on a 1080p screen, its the same on PRO , to fix this go to your console settings find the Video Output options and set it from Auto(or 2160p) to 1080p this will fix your combat numbers issue .

Than you are stuck with the bug if it still persist even when the output resolution is set to 1080p.
However on PS4 pro we have one other solution , i hope you will have similar for XboX X so there it is.
1: We Turn off our console and unplug the HDMI cable
    2: Turn on the console
3: We connect with Playstation Remote play from our PC to the console
    4: Start ESO :
5: Go to Eso settings 》Video》and change it from 1080p enchanced to 4k!!.
This will fix the combat numbers bug , however before doing the whole procedure you must Synchronice in advance your PC with your new xbox X while its connected to the TV and after that start from point 1: .

    My initial impressions post optimization.

Too early for me to give a more complete review but some things I have noticed:

    Water is beautiful
    Draw distance improved
    Graphics are more crisp
    Shadows are more defined
Battlegrounds are smooth (were smooth before though)

Playing on a Samsung 4K UHD Curved TV.
Using a Samsung 250GB SSD dedicated for this game.

I'd like to test Cyro later and maybe some trials later in the week if I get time. This will really test FPS.

I did notice one fault in my combat text not being centered (probably due to it being a higher resolution).

In ESO you go to Options then Video and under Display there should be a new setting to choose 1080 or 4k. Your Xbox should also be showing 4k.

What monitor or TV are you using? You may need to enable something in the displays settings to get the option for 4K. On my LG 4K monitor I have to go into the Picture settings and turn on "HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Color".

ESO in 4k HDR on PS4 Pro on a high end Sony TV is breathtaking. I buy Microsoft and Sony products. I hope Xbox One X gives its purchasers an equal, if not better, ESO performance with those 6 teraflops and all of that RAM!

Sorry but breathtaking is a bit of an exaggeration.... tboe only people that would consider eso at 4k via ps4pro on an hdr tv (4k mode has none of the graphical improvements) are those rhat have never seen true high fidelity visuals cranked up in pc hardware.

This is not some pc masterace comment. In fact i spend most of my time on my ps4 account vs my pc account. But visually, eso on the pro at 4k is hardly "breathtaking".

Breathtaking is a relative term. Staring at the northern lights aurora in East March took my breath away. Therefore, it is breathtaking to at least me.

Also, PS4 Pro is 4k Native when not in 1080 enhanced....

    www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-us/news/post/25857

I forgot to specify eso is the exception. I dont believe there is a single game witb pro support outaide of eso that runs at native 4k. Simply becuase most traditional AAA games are far more involved visually than mmos are. Whereas XBOX has on record at least 2 AAA games running at native 4k.

Check out Shadows of Mordor on Pro and 4K tv. Holy s%#^*!

Look at your TV remote and find something like Info button and when pressing it on your screen should apear the HDMI Input signal if it is 4k it should be 2160p at 60hz(or 60p) if its showing this exact info than its the Eso game fault , but if it shows 1080p 60 hz than you will need to tweak some tv settings to enable the 4k signal.

At the same time hardware evolutions are slowing down to the point that consoles are releasing hardware that is no longer multiple generations behind PC's.

True. Xbox One X is basically a pretty decent gaming PC. Realistically you would be hard pressed to find or build your own gaming PC for $500. I’d venture to bet Microsoft is selling the console at break even or at a small loss.

Sony could have put more effort into the Pro imo.

Feels like a massive improvement for me. A lot smoother, detail is on par with high / ultra on PC which I played from beta and still have an active account.

Haven’t tried trials yet but later this week will be a test on FPS drops. The bug with combat text is annoying.

Overall very impressed with the One X and ZOS support, there are other games that look even more stunny. Project Cars 2 is jaw dropping.

Do you guys get to play at 60 fps at 4k resolution on the X?

Btw the HDR feature in ESO is more of a flaw than an improvement I think. While I do appreciate it in games like Resident Evil 7, to me it just looks off in ESO. Comic style.

My TV is a 1080p screen, no HDR for me. But i definitely noticed the nicer water, moar grasses, and every texture is loading quickly. Thing is though, after several hours the console started making a subtle grinding noise that ceased when i quit the game.

I’m noticing a huge difference in trials. In two places where my frame rate would always dip to about 10fps (The Wispmother and the first trash pull in Hel Ra), there was no discernible slowdown. Of corse, this could be more to do with the alleged optimisation than the extra grunt of the X.
