Making Gold in Clockwork City Update?

I recently returned to the game, and I'm trying to gear up my new tank character. All of my old methods for making gold are outdated, and most of the guides I've found were written a year ago and are probably equally outdated. Does anyone have any advice on specific activities I can do to make gold at a decent rate? I heard that doing crafting writs can make a lot of gold, but thus far I haven't really seen it.

I do writs on 12 characters and make around 1m a month, not including gold mats

Theyre worth it if you have several crafting characters (with max level passives) and crafting bag.
This is because the rewards from those quests are random, but when you do a lot of them (if you're on PC, this addon is a MUST), you'll see a positive tendency. And dont forget that you get 4k gold per character, so if you do writs on 10 chars, its 40k gold+some gold tempers/surveys/Master writs.
I also have hirelings on all characters... Yes, they mostly send junk, but I still get a few golden tempers per week for free, so its not that bad.
You can also farm raw materials to sell or refine. Thats not the most profitable way, but its reliable and doesnt require any investments (except craft bag).
Farming motifs is also a good way to earn gold along with exp/achievements. There's 4 daily quests in Clockwork City, and each of them has a chance of dropping motif pages. If you have a stealthy character, pickpocketing in Vvardenfell is a good way to get items to sell to fence along with Great House motifs (Hlaalu, Telvanni, Redoran). They sell for 15k each or so + you get a ton of stuff to sell to fence.
If you have a good group, motifs from vet dlc dungeons also sell well, but its only worth it if you can reliably do speedrun+hardmode (because you dont have a 100% drop chance on non-hardmode).
Manipulating the market is probably the most productive way to earn tons of gold, but it requires some dedication and of course there is competition.
So... Nothing really changed, except for some silly things like farming imperials with prosperous gear. But that wasnt the most efficient way to farm to beging with.

    Well, that can't be right.

Those who defend the appallingly dysfunctional Kiosk system claim that Market Manipulation is impossible, and only occurs in games with an Auction House system.

Personally I only bother with the equipment writs. I know I could double my profits but I never have the right recipes for provisioning and hate how you have to manually figure out the alchemy ones. But even ignoring half the possible writs, I get a minimum of 3k per character--but it often comes out to more like 6-10k per character since gold tempers drop frequently.

If you go the mat grinding route at all you will want to max out your extraction in cothing/wood/blacksmith to give you a better chance of getting gold upgrade mats.

But anyway, one character doing writs every day gets you 90-300k a month per character. I do writs on 6 characters at the moment so it's 540-1.8m a month just from clicking a few buttons. The only downside is you do have to set aside some mat grinding time to be able to do writs but the upside is that means more purple/gold mats for you to sell.

No one says that. They say its harder to.

Its called Flipping. It takes a lot longer with the current setup than if there was an auction house but essentially you just travel around looking for items that are under priced and buy them, and turn around and sell them.

Does it make money? Yes. Are you going to single handedly increase the price of an item? No.

I'd suggest to "just play the game". Pick a map, run around, collect and kill everything in sight. This actually does not require lot of skills and attention (though properly invested CPs and skill points are highly recommended). Sell normal stuff to vendor, mats and better items via guild trader.
Some areas are better than others, you'll notice which on is nice and which one is empty.

I've seen people talking about them, but I don't understand the selling of the Writs.

Do they go for a lot?

I get that you get a chance to get them from completing the Daily Crafting ...quests(?), but should you sell them before opening them?

    Again, are they worth much?

Are they just Master Writs? Or are there regular Writs as well?

On Xbox NA the master writs sell for about 1k gold per voucher. I have seen them priced higher but usually those sit a long time.

Kudos to people who can actually flip efficiently because you need a huge amount of dedication and patience to be able to be successful at it.

Nothing flips anymore, as trait change has now come, almost all gear is worthless and has a base value no matter what the trait basically.

Farming materials, you competing against the massive botting going on good luck with that.

Glad im sitting on my fortune because now gold really is KING )

EDIT: I am making solid gold running vFH and vBF for the new motifs, selling ~40k a piece. Apart from that, there is nothing worth farming tbh

I guess I'll just keep thieving and fencing, thieving and fencing.

It's a slow process, but it's guaranteed Gold...
