Console folks: how do you change your gear and action bars?

As I a pc player I have grown extremely fond of an addon called Dressing Room that allows me to save several setups of gear and action bars that can literally be switched with a flip of a button. Before I installed Dressing Room changing gear and skills was a terrible procedure. How do you console folks manage without this capability, do you just go through the hazzle dazzle and manually change each gear item and/or skills when you need it?

I mean, yeah that's all we can do.

We wear the gear we want, and keep the rest in the Bank for later. When we want to change, we withdraw it from the bank and equip it, changing it out.

And for swapping bars in combat, I just bring my right thumb over to hit left on the D-Pad.

I didn't mean the normal weapon / bar swapping, but actually having completely different actionbars setup. For when you want to play tank instead of healer or dd etc and therefore need other skills you have to select different skills that's on your current actionbars.

I should probably have stated why I asked in the first place: I feared that perhaps I had overlooked this sort of functionality in the base game. I mean switching gears and skills for different roles is an absolute necessity in many situations and the fact that it is not possible in the base game without manually moving each piece of gear and each single skill.... that's astonishing.

Well you tell me. ArchMikem said that "And for swapping bars in combat, I just bring my right thumb over to hit left on the D-Pad.". Clearly he is here referring to the normal weapon/bar swapping, which was not the intended topic of my OP, which is why I clarified in my response.

It's painful, better to have a specific purpose on each character.

Also don't tank until you've done the overland content you need to, once the tank gear is on it's staying on.

At least thats what I did when I played on the XB1.

But, yeah, that does sound pretty miserable. I've used the controller interface on PC a few times, briefly, for testing. But, never tried to rework a build in it, to say nothing of swapping builds.

There is no getting around it as everyone was alluding to. We don't have the luxury of add ons on console that give us the advantages that PC enjoys.

Not having Miat's addon is truly one of the only advantages console has over PC. Assuming you hate that sort of thing in the first place. I still think there are quality of life improvements ZOS could make over time that would help. Something I really want is to select how many sets of potions you want to make with one button instead of pressing the X button over and over for half an hour.

Being able to see resource numbers/percentages, enemy HP numbers/percentages, damage numbers, ultimate number, buff trackers, and text chat on console have be awesome additions to the game that only PC had access to before they were added. I hope they continue with this trend by adding stuff to the game that should have been there from the start.

Indeed, and it's glorious. Now I can swap between loadouts for grouping, solo, and DZ shenanigans.

Heck, even Neverwinter has a loadout system

Step 1: Travel to desolate location. Cannot be in a DLC area.
Step 2: Make sure to pull banker out before going into inventory screen.
Step 3: Pray to Azura that you crash after submitting changes.
Step 4: SLOWLY scroll from one item to the next, min of 10 sec from each selection.
Step 5: Restart game after submitting changes when game freezes.
Step 6: Reload game while banging head against wall because we still play this broken game on console.
Step 7: Load in and realize one item didn’t equip and has disappeared into the oblivion inventory due to the crash and submit ticket to ZoS to try and recover said item.
Step 8: Wait for scripted response from ZoS basically saying “You are SOL but thanks for continuing to pay for the broken game we provide.”

How do you manage to switch from DPS to Tank to Healer and play effectively without spending gold to reset your CP or attribute points every time? I understand that CP isn't everything. But it definitely helps.

Each of may characters are dedicated to a role. If I do decide to switch one to another role, I need to do a lot more than just switch a couple of skills and gear. A lot of times that also includes respeccing all of my skill points, because some morphs of skills work better for different roles. On top of that, who has the inventory space for 3 full sets of gear to fill a healer/dps/tank role? I barely have inventory space to collect gear while farming dungeons.

Plus, who resets their entire bar mid-dungeon? Switching out 1 skill or two skills as needed makes sense. But an entire loadout? How do you even manage to maintain a rotation or remember what skills are slotted where?

You can’t switch gear and skills for different roles without manually doing it. You change one skill at a time, one single piece of equipment one gear piece at a time. You can’t just automatically change one action bar and gear in an instant, like on PC.

Welcome to console. We hope you enjoy your experience.
