Idea: solvents that create potions that scale with level up to current maximum

I was looking at the provisioning recipes today to figure out what to make for my poor little nubmunster characters that aren't level 50 yet, when it suddenly dawned on me: why not take this great theme they've had going where certain foods scale to character level, and apply it to everything else! Put out a new solvent that creates scaling potions so that players can make their own custom leveling consumables.

Oh heck, why not do it for everything?? New crafting materials for everyone! New wood makes scaling staves, bows, and shields. New leather makes scaling brigandine and catsuits. New glyphs make scaling hoopy joopy magick stuff. Put that in your Rolis Hlaalu and smoke it.

    While I admit that I've often wished for a potion that would level with me, I really only want that because I'm lazy when leveling alts and hate picking up a ton of potions or leveling alchemy.

    The truth is that you can make your own potions as you level by leveling alchemy easily as long as you take the time to pick up reagents and solvents. This is easier if you are leveling in a leisurely manner, such as by questing and crafting. Its not going to help if you want to rush to level 50 by dolmen farming or some such. By learning alchemy as it is intended, you can make potions to your level with whatever effects you want!

    Otherwise, you have the opportunity to collect a lot of basic potions at your level range by fighting mobs and bosses, which works whether you are leveling by grinding or questing. The only times I've felt I was lacking in potions was if I hadn't been bothering to pick them up from the NPCs I killed.

    Finally, what did Rolis Hlaalu do to deserve being smoked? Does he owe you vouchers from a writ or something?

    This would be geared towards the people who grind levels, not go out and quest for them and take their sweet time about it.

    There are several benefits to this approach:
    • Easier for players grinding new characters since they can make what they need in bulk all at once
    • Easier on the bank space since you wouldn't have to store potions of every level just to streamline the grinding process
    • More fun things to turn your master writs in for

    This would be especially useful for crafted arms and armor, kind of like WoW's legacy items weapons except better. Right now I have 5 full sets of leather and cloth armor each (a level 4 set and then a set for all levels divisible by 10) sitting in my bank, and I withdraw and redeposit them as needed depending on who I'm grinding. This is, naturally, not ideal for bank space, but it's just so convenient to have premade armor for when my dudes are going out on a grinding spree. I'm just about finished grinding my last characters up to 50 so this wouldn't really benefit me at all, but I'm sure it would benefit the heck out of new players or folks who haven't got all their characters up yet!

    In other words, the methods of making potions words just fine for players who play the game as intended. Strangely enough, the game is not intended for you to grind as quickly as possible to level 50 (though its certainly possible), so I'm not surprised that there aren't mechanics to benefit grinders at the expense of crafters.

    However, even when grinding quickly, I got plenty of basic potions or had the opportunity to use a crafting alt to make myself more specialized potions.

    @VaranisArano

    Wow, judgey and wrong, my favorite combo. It's a complete disservice to the game designers to say that the game was "intended" to be played a certain way. There are hundreds of beautiful quests, but lo and behold there's also tons of areas with ample amounts of fast-spawning enemies to grind your way to 50, as well as several in-game and cash-shop items to boost your XP gained for a short amount of time, as well as whole seasonal events dedicated to XP boost to facilitate grinding. And, as previously stated, those seasonal events also provide provisioning recipes that make food which scales to level, and go figure that helps grinders, too. I am proposing an idea which is just a continuation on an existing development theme.

    And also, are you even serious right now? Who are you to judge me regarding playing the game how you think it was intended? How many quests have you done? Is it: all of them? Because if not then you have absolutely zero business condescending to me in that way. Even if you did, you still wouldn't. On my main I painstakingly took my time with every single quest, listening to the beautiful dialogue, weighing the consequences of the quest decisions, etc. I've spent dozens of hours roleplaying and enjoying community-led events. But you want to come in here telling me I'm not playing the game correctly, somehow, because I want an easier way to make potions for leveling alts? Don't be ridiculous. Maybe if I had no life I could go and experience every quest again thirteen more times, but it turns out I have more going on than this game.
