Planar inhibitor problems

So in this fight I know the mechanics. Or so I thought. The pilon dot is on me as tank until blue phase, then another player activates pilon. That is where the dot is supposed to disappear from me, but it doesn't. It keeps ticking away, building higher, until I die. Is the dot supposed to disappear immediatly another player takes pilon? Or is it supposed to keep ticking for some time after (like > 10 seconds).

Also Im not getting hit by blue proximity instakill fire, so that is not what's killing me. It's a dot that, when it begins ticking >5K eats my hp too fast for healer to keep up.

From my understanding from Tanking it the dot stays on you until the blue phase is over then it resets. I slot dragon blood and vigor, use a tri pot and self heal as much as I can, then when I know the next tick will kill me no matter what I use my magma armour ultimate and that gets me through the blue phase, then the dot resets and repeat until it's dead.

The dot only goes away when the blue fire phase ends and she lays down on the ground, so youll have to survive that a bit longer. My suggestion would be to take it at the beginning and keep it until the first portals come and then let someone else take it once, because the longer you hold it the bigger will the dot become. If a dd or a heal is holding it once the dot isnt very harmful, especially if the person has the light armor shield that absorbs magic damage.

We usually keep her in one place the most of the fight because shes not doing more damage in the red phase than when youre running in circles, but the damage she gets will be MUCH higher because of the dds aoes that she doesnt run out in that case. Just step aside when she does the attack with the fire aoes from the ground.
When she gets blue we just do the switch stuff until she goes down. After that we usually ignore the portals and just burst her to death. DPS needs to be enough for that though. Otherwise Id just keep doing the same as before and close the portals.

Either your healer isn't keeping you alive properly, your survivability is bad, or the dps are so slow that the dot built up so high that you should have swapped with a dps on the pinion long before blue phase.

Thanks for the answers. Im still concerned about this question though:

Is the dot supposed to disappear immediately another player takes pinion? (Or is it supposed to keep ticking for some time after (> 10 seconds))?

EDIT: ah I think I understand now. The pinion dot gets stronger as long as I have pinion; it stops growing when someone else takes pinion, but the dot doesn't disappear from me until blue phase ends.

Your question has already been answered, the dot will stay on the player that activate the pinion and will keep increasing as long as the player have the pinion, if another player take the pinion he will receive a dot that will increase with time as well, however it wont reset the previous player dot, it is just a sharing mechanic in case dps is not enough, tank is not sturdy and have own heals, healer sucks for keeping the pinion on tank and burst before blue phase. Keep in mind the only reset to all players dots is after blue phase.

Yeah you need a healer using heals over time or life steal. Also make sure you are close to 32.5 restiances. You could use trial by fire set if you are struggling.

Honestly though...I have a feeling it was the healer. It's really hard to notice that dot if you have a decent one.

Yep exactly one or all of the above.

As others have mentioned, the DOT increases over time as you hold the pinion. Once someone takes the pinion off you, the DOT doesn't disappear immediately but fades off over time. During the blue phase the DOT is magnified quite a bit, so if you had many stacks of the DOT when entering the blue phase you could die as a tank even if she isn't near you. Only once the blue phase ends will all DOT stacks be immediately removed.

Just ensure that the party rotates the pinion once in a while, like whenever she does her dive attack, and the DOT should never build up to unmanageable levels.

A lot of people don't know that 2 people can kill the portals all the time now. So there is absolutely no reason for the tank to ever not have the boss in red phaze. Blue is a different story and has been covered pretty well in thread.

A lot of people don't know that 2 people can kill the portals all the time now.

But they should. The dead give away is your screen turning grey.....

Random #1- My screen is grey. Time to destroy portals!
Random #2 My screen is grey. Time to destroy portals!

That can be accomplished without anyone ever knowing a second person could be involved in this.

The problem I'm seeing with White-Gold tower now is that the tank or anyone for that matter is not grabbing the pinion at any point of the fight.

Should is the optimal word. You should never assume people know anything. I have probably pug wgt more then 15 times in the last week using the group finder on most of ten toons, for the daily complete for the transmutation stone reward, some vet, most on normal, like 70% of those times, people didn't know that 2 of the group got portals all the time. This is on PC, of course. More then a few of the tanks I played with on vet could not handle holding the pinion till blue either. Even with me as a healer spaming springs and all that jazz in them.

If you're magicka you should be using any morph of Annulment.

If you're stamina you should be using Vigor.

Add these to your class heal, shield or purge and this boss is a breeze. Kent HM is the hardest part of WGT. Apply the same on this boss as well.

Unless you're a magicka-based tank wearing heavy armor, and then you can't use annulment as that now requires 5 pieces of light armor to wear, as of CWC. In that case, look at sets or skills that increase your resistances if those are lacking.

No, that's Molag Kena, the end boss. We're talking about the Planar Inhibitor, the big flame atronach.
