Over the course of my time in the game I've created around 9 or 10 characters, most kept, some deleted. The Event's +100% xp gain made me think about recreating my Dunmer character Teva Hlaalu MagDK so I can experience the wonderful world of Whipping again with a Race that actually suits a MagDK. But I'm such a staunch Pact player which means all of my characters have to be Pact, just so everything is uniform, tidy, whatnot. I've gone through these questlines like ten times now and I made it as far as Fort Virak and Level 25 when I've just lost all desire to continue. I have this pet peeve where I need my characters to at least have The Alliance Questline and the Main Story cleared, if not Silver and Gold as well for me to feel satisfied with them. But now I just can't stand the thought of going through all of Stonefalls, Deshaan, Shadowfen etc AGAIN.

Imagine the character cap was 8 and maybe that was brilliant. (Picking at you obviously)

What if I told you “we” don’t do it, tho I’m sure some others do. I made one main character and all others were just made so I’d know if I really prefer my main.

I did repeat some stuff but I have characters in all three factions so I settled on one and would no redo most again but to each their own.

Maybe play another game for 6-9 months and then come back after the next new DLCs that should roll out by Feb/March

While what you describe may have been true at launch, there is now so much content that there's no need to stick to the same rigid leveling path. Of course, if you choose to do so then that is your prerogative! You could, however, roll a new EP character and get the first 25-30 levels in Vvardenfell, then do assorted DLCs and get to level 50 without ever stepping foot in Stonefalls, Deshaan, Shadowfen etc!

That is a legitimate idea, but the Questline of Vvardenfell is supposed to be a sequel to the Main Story right? I'm such a stickler for Continuity.

    No.

The Morrowind Story Line was written to run parallel to the base game Main Story. If you choose to start and complete the Morrowind Story, then when you go to your first Base Game Zone, you get sacrificed, and go to the Wailing Prison like in the Main Story, and vice versa.

This parallel story scheme is also why there's no mention of Molag Bal and the base game Story in all of Vvardenfell.

Easy, ignore the PvE Quests. None of the last 5 characters I have leveled have done any of the PvE quests. Well, for more than 18 months anyway.

    No Quest Leveling
    1. I collected all the Skyshards in the zone. I avoided any and all quests other than those that show up in the delves that have skyshards. These quests do not give set items for rewards so no loss there.
    2. I would farm the dolmens a few times to get set jewelry that helped my character
    3. I would do the Public Dungeons including all the bosses
    4. Then I would move to the next zone.

In doing this, I could fully gear up my character with level appropriate stuff, and it was helpful gear. May not have been the best, but you don't need the best while leveling. Any gear I farmed from Dolmens or PD's is repeatable, so I can get it at CP160 by just repeating. Then, I had all the content quests left for me once I reached CP160 as those can give you sweet Set Drops in good traits you want. And, Quest Experience is huge for gaining CPs once your past CP160. Kind of a waste before that.

In about 8 zones, I would be fully leveled in Mages, Fighters, Class, 3 Armors and Weapon Skills. Leaving only Undaunted to level, although I would get to almost 3 in that from Dungeon Achievements.

Now, since it has been 18 months, the quests are fresh for me again.

Also, just because your role a Pact character does not mean they need to grow up in the Pact. They can grow up in any Alliance's zones, or even a mix of them. Give them a reason to wander (gypsy parents, can't sit still, need a nomadic lifestyle etc). Then you can create a mix of zones for them to level in. Heck there are almost enough zones that you need never set foot in the original 15 to level a character.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Ditch the hard requirement to do the Alliance and Main Story quest lines. Doing it that way is like forcing yourself to drive the same road every day. There is more than one road. Instead, do side quests, and maybe all or part of a zone quest if it strikes you. Stay away from the Pact territory, as this seems to trigger you. Do events to level. Gear your <50 characters at dolmens, dungeons, delves, and world bosses. By the time you get a full set of gear, it will be time to do it again. Don't go for the meta right away so that you can do different zone and dungeon sets.

It's OK if you never finish the main quest. It's OK if the alliances don't meet in Coldharbor.

I currently have 9 characters and am planning out 2 more. But I have probably started and deleted 6 other characters. I have run the main story through once for EP and Silver and Gold on my main. And, while I may run some quests on my alts for specific gear rewards or skill points, I really don't do questing on my alts. My main is the primary quester and sometimes I will take an alt through the Harborage quests to get Soul Assault if I want it for PVP.

    Personally have 10 CR160+ characters
+ a couple that were deleted to reroll before crown shop was a thing
am working on finishing up 1-2 more before the event wraps up

Only two characters have finished Gold and Silver in entirety, and one of them was just because that was the only way to push up to v10 without going totally mad from grind

With one tamriel it has become significantly more easy to level without getting totally irritated
still make all my characters DC, but will adventure and explore in other alliance zones
    and do non-main story questlines
depending on what is appropriate to the personality of the character being roleplayed
since "max level" now unlocks for alts at 50, there is no need to try and do everything in order to max out level
so having variation to how the characters level mitigates some of the headache
but only go completionist with achievements and stuff on my first character

also, when exp events are not factored in
typically do a few days on a low level alt, then a few days on CR characters
and alternate around to keep things feeling fresher

After doing the same thing with 9 characters I'm finally trying something new. As soon as they hit lvl. 10 I go to Cyrodiil and keep them there until they hit lvl. 50. Will probably skip most story until I want to chase the skillpoints.

I don't do everything on the same character. All join fighters and mages guild, but Dark Brotherhood and Thieves guild are done only if it makes sense.
I don't answer quests in a way that would make me min/max, I answer them in a way that fits what my character would do and would think. Yeah, you might miss a few skillpoints in one quest, or another, but it's not like you need all the crafting stuff on all the characters, so you don't require to quite literally collect them all.

Lastly, when I was a kid I had very few games, meaning I was rotating the same RPGs over and over. You can not replay the same game 3-4 times in a row and NOT get bored. So have a break! Go do something else for half a year and then come back when you actually want to experience the world of ESO all the way from the beginning all over again :)

    I don’t

I have my main that does everything 100% all my other characters do only what they need to do to make a solid character like lore books and skyshards undaunted etc.

I feel all quest and achievements at 100% is only worth it once doing it all over again just seems stupid and a waste of time.

Totally understand how you feel. My latest alt pretty much levelled in Vvaredenfall, the main quest line and all the public dungeons. Then for the last few levels I just hopped on boats and travelled randomly picking up quests here and there. He just hit 50 the other day in CC.

I think my main advice is that there is plenty to do to get to level 50 without having to do the same content again and again. I think it's you perfectionism that is maybe the problem... lol :)

Okay. Two accounts, subbed, pretty much since a few months after release. I think I've "created and deleted" about 4-5 characters, but kept most. I have 10 on one account, 11 on the other (and more will come).

First, I absolutely CANNOT use the same pattern (i.e. do all of zone X, then main then whatever) over and over. My head would explode ... metaphorically ... that being said, I absolutely CANNOT do all the "chores" every day on every character (I rarely do writs, occasionally do mount training/riding lessons, do terrible at keeping up with main - of all my characters only one has actually finished the "main" [Molag Bal] quest). I have One character that is within 5-6 lessons of totally maxing her riding skills. the rest are ... way behind.

If its grindy or not fun, I won't enjoy it so I don't do it.

This means I level slowly, am a packrat about CP 160 stuff because "somebody might need it someday" and always am crunched for bank and bag space (and I decon everything to level crafting, and am slowly learning to use guild traders well - took me a month of work to save up for the witches house).

I have one character who has all their initial zone cleared. One.

The thing is that all my characters are characters. Individual. Different tastes, drives, preferences, pets, mounts (well, mostly, I have twin altmer sorcs Hisa Ni Caemaire and Hisa Fae Caemaire that share the same mount - or rather Hisa Fae shares her sisters enchanted white steed Mundus). No two use the same build (even the twins).

This kinda puts me out of the running for the "end game" material - but I've been playing for all this time, never yet done the quest line for Assassins or Thieves (just don't seem to run that way) barely scratched Morrowind, haven't gone to Clockwork city other than jumping to player to two-step home.

I realize I've been kinda ranting about what I haven't done, and that's probably not helpful.

    so..

Cruvith Tharys formerly of Dres fled her home, and sought redemption by soldiering in Cyrodiil. I did most of her leveling by joining random groups in IC. She's a pretty little thing, so mostly she was welcome, and she's good at the support that a magika DK can bring a random group.

She was followed out of IC by a Daedrat, which was noted (and exclaimed over in horror) by friends as I was doing undaunted. Her story was that she threw away the trash of her meal, he ate it, apparently assumed she was "feeding him" (she had NO such intent) and so He was named (by the group) "fluffy, the mystery meat of pets" Months, heck its at least a year, later, she has some affection for him. She isn't likely to admit it.

Mol gro Durga was killed with most of the rest of the population of Nibenay Valley in the battle of the same name (headcannon of the group I play with) and now the village is gone. He met his now beloved in Cold Harbor. They travelled and adventured through DC together, and have accepted Cadwell's challenge and started AD. The adventure that he (and my husband, who plays his spouse, Fianna Kingsley) recall most fondly was the DC thing with the Wyrd sisters. So they don't see the "Witches home" as spooky, but as a beloved romantic hideaway.

Hisa Ni Caemaire was utterly appalled at the loss of power, memory and ... everything that was the result of Mannimarco's sacrificing her. She wants every skill back. She is maxed in the three main crafting lines, she works to hone all her Sorc skills. She is a pretty basic pet build, and my highest DPS (mostly be cause over time I have learned how to play her well).
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

I also am an admitted altoholic, currently playing 14 different chars. I don't follow the same path with my chars. The "thief" style character concentrates on TG dlc, an assassin type does the DB dl etc., and others start working different zones from the start, i.e. I have a bosmer that started right away in Grahtwood. Since 1T there is no need to follow a set zone trail. Plus I mix in the other guild quests and a healthy dose of skyshard hunting to break it up. Good luck!

Persuade and Intimidate are too valuable to pass up. Sadly, not all of my characters are appropriate for the Fighter and Mages Guilds, so I prefer to use the term "register". Leveling can be done passively (books and daedra) but I only do the quests on the characters that make sense.

I know what you mean. I haven't done much of Vvardenfell or Clockwork city yet and I started back up recently with a new character. I made another new one to try out the new DLC quests, but it just doesn't feel right doing them out of order, even though I know the only difference is some reference dialogue. Little, too, because my character is DC and I don't plan on doing Cadwell's Silver or Gold on it.

So I'm making myself wait to do the new DLC quests until after I do the main quest/DC quests, and at least Wrothgar's main quest, even though I know that, because of it being in pact territory, there probably won't be too many DC recurring characters.

*shrugs* it's nonsensical, but it is what it is.

As an alto-holic, I don't do it for the different playstyles, I do it for the character stories. That means I can be selective about which quests I do. For Example:

Sigrid Poison-Blade, a Nord StamDK, quests in Eastmarch and the Rift. She might do the other Pact regions, but I suspect she'll chase the barbarian Reachmen into Wrothgar instead and get mixed up in King Kurog's politics instead.

Ayrelin, an Altmer nightblade who's secretly a member of the Veiled Heritance, does the Dominion's questline out of order, ending in Auridon where she has to choose between Queen Ayrenn and her loyalty to the increasingly erratic Veiled Queen. (this one is a dead alt, because try as I might, I don't like the nightblade playstyle)

Akaviria, an Imperial stam sorc agent of Abnur Tharn, was trying to avoid the sterotype of the daedra-summoning, necromancying Imperial, and in the process of rooting out the Worm Cult in the Rift, doing the Main Quest, and saving the Imperial City, she became a daedra-summoning, necromancying Imperial. Sigh. Good intentions...

So I think the quests fresh by having different characters do them. Akaviria and Sigrid both quested in the Rift, but where Akaviria is playing the double agent to both the Nord and the Reachmen, Sigrid's much more focused on protecting the Nords. Playing the Dominion quests as a Veiled Heritance agent who'd actually like to see Ayrenn fail and the bad guys win was a fun thought exercise that made the quests fresh, even though she was kind of a nasty character to roleplay.

I dont do the quests anymore. I cleared (turned the map white) alliance silver and gold on 6 characters. Now i have 12. I progressed from doing everything... to just doing skill point quests... to just doing shards dolmens delves and dungeons. I play different race and class combinations for the different roles and pvp so im pretty much set now with what i have. A mage and stam dps character in basically ideal races foe wach class and then a specific tank and healer.

This way i can mix up what playstyle i want to utilise and have plenty of content left uncompleted on about half my guys. Even tho i mostly just do vet dungeons, trials and pvp.

This is your problem. It's okay to pool all your characters into the Pact, but you don't need to restrict yourself only to Pact content and zones, it doesn't affect your allegiance at all. Stonefalls is gonna get dry after the 3rd run, let alone 10 later.

I think too most people who run alts don't actually do zone story content with them. They powerlevel them - and then if they need skill points they hunt the shards and Public Dungeons - there's no reason to re-run story content, it's inefficient and boring as hell. Most people make their alts for endgame content, not so much for re-experiencing the game.

I have a lot of alts, but for me, my main character was the one who "accomplishes things", like trials, quests, dungeon achievements, get every skyshard in the game, have the best title, etc.

My other characters are purely for having different roles/classes in dungeons/trials. I do the bare minimum on them to make them trial ready (level only the skill lines I need in combat, get only enough skill points for the build, and max the undaunted skill line, fighters/mages guild) I enjoy playing different combat styles but none of them mean the same to me as my main character which was the first one I made and have played the most on.

I level each new character to 50 by killing the same mudcrab over and over.

I used to be a single mudcrab killer just like you. Then I started killing a cast of crabs at a time and now I'm three times as fast!

Anyways, if you are a compulsive completionist you have no choice! Obey those questmarkers!

I'm still leveling my Imperial Templar, Hope Fidelius, in Cold Harbor.

It technically is a continuance of the main story/Orsinium. ***SPOILERS***
At the end of Orsinium, The Prophet will appear and tell you "A great war is coming. A war between the forces of Oblivion. The Daedric Princes are choosing sides. The great deceiver, the sewer of discord, and the patron of darkness plot a great deception."(Clavicus Vile, Mephala, and Nocturnal), and that "The war shall begin when the gates to Sotha Sil's lost city are reopen. So the Scrolls portend, so shall it be"
    Valtyr Stormblade- Nord DK CP810

    Vulsahvith- Argonian NB CP810

Illidan Highborn- High Elf Sorc CP810

    Thrall Durotar- Orc WD CP810

Mythos Varedis- Wood Elf TP CP810

    Ra'zaq- Khajit NB CP810

    Aelya Proudmoore- Breton Sorc CP810

    Broxigar Saurfang- Orc DK CP810

Lady Sylvannas Windrunner- Dark Elf NB CP810

Lord Anduin Wyrnn- Breton TP CP810
