Why the Factotum can't play music correctly?

When you arrive at the Brass Fortress you meet a couple of factotums called "Auditory Stimulators" that are playing the lute and flute. Well, trying, because they utterly fail at it 
BUT WHY? First reason that came to my mind is "Right, Sotha is the logical one, he doesn't care about music". I kept thinking though. Music is also logical. Surely the factotums can read a partiture? Then the person I was playing with said "Is Sotha making fun of Vivec".
Which is my new favorite explanation now. Specially after reading this loading screen:

Ulo✭✭✭✭Playing through Clockwork city i'm sure we all know by now, Sotha Sil doesn't do anything without a reason. So the only rational assumption is that, yes, he did deliberately made it play badly. No idea why, maybe you're right or maybe some other reason?3 -
