Confessions of a guild hopper

I don’t know if I’m the only one but I never stay in guilds long. I like to jump from guild to guild meeting new people.

Staying in one guild for to long you meet people you don’t get along with and also limit the amount of friends or cool people you can meet in game. I play MMORPGs for the social part of them.

If I find people I click with then I add them as a friend and keep in touch. I know GMs don’t like this and think poorly of people like me.

I wanted to know if there was anyone else that use guild as just a way to find more like minded people with out getting into all the drama that seems to unfold if you stay to long. Not so much as you are the one starting it but other memebers fighting or starting issues within guilds.

I met some amazing people and love playing with them just not the whole guild. When ever I leave I get pms from an angry guild master or people wanting to know why. Its just a personal thing and it’s the best way I found to meet people.

I also like to help new guilds get started I’m a max cp pvp and pve player and crafter. So I’ll join help out new ppl then leave once it’s going. I never ask for anything from the guild or take anything.

I have been a member of several but found it a little difficult to keep up with them, so I left all but one, the second one I was invited to and had been most active in. I might join another again, but I am happy with the one for now. The GM is super involved and helpful and my guildmates are awesome.

As an officer in a guild Khajiit understands your perspective yes.

However perhaps all that is required before you leave is a polite explanation to the guild leader of why you are leaving?

We make great efforts, at least in the Imperial Trading Company, to be friendly and helpful to other guild members and if someone suddenly left then we would just be curious why - if perhaps something had been done to upset them or we were just not the sort of guild they were seeking.

I use to do this but I join a lot of new guilds. When ever I feel that the players in a new guild with new players have their feet wet and can help other members I feel it’s my time to leave. U can only have 5 slots for guilds(better then other mmos that have only 1)and when I see in zone chat a new guild getting started I join right away and one of them has to go.

It becomes tedious to explain this and then I guess I come off rude. There are many amazing guilds with amazing people I just don’t see the point in limiting the amount of people one can meet. The more friends the better.

It’s always nice to look in a friends list and have a healer or tank or just someone to fool around in pvp with. I just don’t like being tied down to 1 guild for long.

I don’t know how guild masters and officers do it seems like so much work and a game should not be work. More power to the hard working GMs and officers that keep guilds going strong

Easy way is to join trade guilds.

When you are about ready to leave stop paying their "sub".

Soon enough they'll let you go without you needing to ask for or explain anything.

Don't know why you are burning all bridges though.....

You can have five guilds, why not stick with a couple you find really good and just hop around with the other three.

I'd be flattered if a GM was actually bothered that I left a guild tbh lol.

Most are small guilds with max like 200 players but more like 10-15 active players in guild. Seems to be the norm for guilds in this game. I’m in two guild traders non social just pay due and sell stuff no one talks other then WTS or WTB stuff. Never thought about it as burning bridges when I keep in touch with everyone I befriend.

The big guilds seem so focused on pvp or trials and these guilds tend to have the most toxic of players not everyone just the few the ruins the bunch. And if ur muting guild chat(xb1) and guild txt chat then no point in being in the guild.

I prefer the small guild anyways and like to see guilds start from nothing and end up doing vet dlc or taken keeps with the core memebers but I feel I can help else where.

I somewhat agree with you OP. I have been in somewhere around 40-50 different guilds. settling in five guilds 'forever' just seems impossible to me. But I have managed to settle down for good in two of my current guilds. I highly doubt I'll ever leave Late Night Dungeoneers simply because it was my first guild ever and has amazing members I find really funny and entertaining. The other guild I doubt I'll leave is Bad Apples. This one I joined not too recently, but not too long ago either. I'm now assisting guildmaster and we're all a big family. The chat is always active and you'll always find help there. My last three remaining guilds I can't say much about because I joined so recently, but so far so good.

Since I pug most the time, my interactions with the guilds I'm in are admittedly minimal. Maybe because deep down I don't feel that connection I would if I saw them face-to-face.

I use to be in a very close guild myself but guild master went MIA and guild slowly broke apart until it was just 2 active members. It’s sad when a guild dies. Maybe I’m jumping around guilds so much bc I’m looking for my home again. Awesome that you found urs

I've been in 4 guilds for over 2 years. They are quite large, and full of awesome people, and I won't leave them ever ever ever. Tamriel feels lonely without their chat antics.

The fifth guild slot I have not been lucky with... I have joined guilds where people were too clingy (if the GM was not in, people would wail and not take advice from anyone else), too rude/immature (foul language and being stoned does not make you cool or edgy - it marks you as a silly teenager), or too full of drama. At the moment I joined a larger trading guild but it's really not my thing, so I'm looking for another one.

I guild-hop with that one spot until I find a guild that "clicks" for me. Then I'll be all set. Since there are new players joining all the time, as long as your guilds are friendly and recruiting, you can meet a lot of new people. I meet most people by running 4-man content, or rescuing newbies in public dungeons.

    @FloppyTouch:

To each his own, but I think just a brief msg to the GM or an officer to let them know your intentions or reason for leaving is, at the very least, polite. This can help them identify a possible problem in the guild and address it, if they deem it necessary.
I am not a player who joins guilds willy nilly, I prefer to do a little research and find a good fit for me. Unfortunately, human nature and the internet being what they are, there will always be some kind of "drama" that occurs. For the most part the wife and I usually just laugh about it among ourselves, as long as it doesn't effect our enjoyment of whatever game we're playing.

Very interesting point of view! :) I wouldn't hate you for doing this. And long ago I stopped wondering why people would leave guilds, there's just too many reasons haha.
I do understand your reason for doing this. But I wonder if you did stay longer in a guild that you found people you liked in, maybe the friendship would deepen even more, and new people coming into the guild would eventually become a part of this? I think that experience would be very rewarding for you.
Unless you simply have yet to come across a guild where it doesn't turn to drama or doesn't have people you dislike. In which case it could just be bad luck.

I'm technically in 3. One of them is a raid guild that hardly has anyone on since Morrowind, the other no one has been on in ages, and my main one is a big reason I stick around. I left ESO for another game a few months back, but missed the people in the guild. So I came back.

I have no desire to hop around.

As a GM I do wonder why people leave. Some players that leave my guilds do message me and tell me the reason they left. I remember the first person that left Friendly Dungeon Runners, the guild members were joking that we were going to find them and pull their hair for leaving.

I'm happy with the guilds I am in, and I don't need to guild swap to find more friends. If I have one good friend then I am happy. :) What I find strange is my friends list is full, but many of the players that requested friendship don't even talk to me.

I was thinking the other day, there are so many people here that need friendships in this game. Made me think there should be a Facebook MMO where everyone runs around giving each other a thumbs up or a thumbs down instead of fighting monsters. Then you level based on how many likes you got. I think it would be funny because people would be running around being nice to each other just to level. i'm sure if i was in that game, I would have a hard time leveling. :)

Well just like Facebook I only add people that I have played with for sometime and talk to day to day. I just don’t feel it up with randoms.

I accept any guild invite but I am not very social and finding the right fit is tough. I have been in some guilds for less than an hour. The only reason I leave a guild that worked out is when members don't play eso anymore.

I’m kind of a guild free agent at this point. There’s less than 5 people on XBox I’d take orders from these days so it’s just not worth listening to the nonsense orders from people I could run circles around.

I am usually in trading guilds and they are ok. People are busy doing things. Not sure about other types of the guilds, but this is more like utility for me - if you are Ok with it - go for it. If not - you are free to leave and do not discuss anything with anybody why you are doing this. The best answer for GM who is asking why I am leaving, as far as I can tell , is that I need a slot for another guild and just had to leave one of my guilds. This usually stopping any discussions.
