Items mysteriously changing?

Has anyone else had this?
I just had a guard take an item on the basis that it was stolen. But it's not. Light Spinners Feet with Divines. Purchased at a guild store and improved by my main char. I'm now short one item for one of the two sets that I wear on this char (Mag sorc).
I'm sure I've seen it elsewhere, in particular with items returned from a guild trader my mail after leaving the guild. But this was not one such item. This is an item I've been wearing for a week or more.
Somehow, it was mysteriously changed to status "stolen".

I found my item in my inventory, after a search showed the replacement was going to cost 2.4k gold plus improvements. Replacement cost at current quality is 10k. However, I'm still trying to work out what got removed from my feet by a guard, where that item came from, and how it got equipped instead.0 -
SickDuck✭✭✭✭✭If you have an item locked and trying to launder/fence it may be equipped instead.
