[SOLVED] Can't update, installer stops at 18389.36MB (30%)

SOLVED

The solution: Deleting the following files prompted the launcher to redo the update. It had it download >50GB but at least it solved the issue entirely. Maybe it was just one corrupt patch file and that deleting just that single file could have fixed it (and perhaps made the subsequent download much smaller?).

I've tried multiple times now, the installer stops at 18389.36MB (30%) every time I try to run it. On top of that Windows seems to run slower in some functions (like opening task manager takes 5 seconds instead of instantly for example, starting my otherwise leightweight screenshot program Greenshot takes 10 seconds instead of instantly and saving the screenshot image file takes another 10 seconds instead of saving instantly. File/folder browsing is laggy as if there is a lot of disk usage happening... from the launcher perhaps? then what disk usage is it doing if there is no progress?), yet other programs and functions work as fast as always (for example opening my browser and typing this text).

I've tried restarting Windows. Tried disabling and closing my antivirus, firewall malware programs. Tried waiting >50 minutes. But didn't help, launcher still stops updating at exactly 18389.36MB. What is going on here.... I can't bear to make a complete redownload and reinstall :(

Interestingly disk usage is 100% so the launcher must be doing something to/on my harddisk...? what is it and how can I fix it?

Just wait. It will take long time (even more if game is not on SSD) but it will progress. Second similar gap is on about 90%.

Have you tried “waiting”? Crazy concept, I know.

Yeah... 50 minutes now. I have NEVER waited this long before, not even come close. Not with ESO not with other games. Not even a fresh install would take this long, well except maybe the download itself if the ESO servers were slow speed, but there is not download happening here. It's abnormal behaviour from an installer.

This is weird behavior, even for a normal HDD this is extremely abnormal, I haven't experienced this before. So, wait another 50 minutes? How immense is this update anyway? Didn't take long to download, seemed like 2GB, it's the install process that is messing something up.

It goes quite fast on SSD. Very slow on HDD.
I've got HDD with SDD buffer (Intel RST) and it took 1,5h.

First run after patch was slow too, menu, characer load, textures load.
But after that it started working as usuall.

It's never been this slow on my HDD. Not even close. Other games doesn't have this issue either and ESO updates have never taken more than 50 minutes to install, and this isn't even a large update.

1.5h?? That's insane. It takes me what an hour MAX to download and install games of sizes ~60GB (unless the game server I download from is totally screwed of course, then the download takes very long. But this is not a download issue, no downloading is happening right now and hasn't for the past hour while it has been stuck on 30%).

Also I tried installing a fresh install of ESO on my HDD laptop a month ago or so, took a little over half an hour, and it was on wifi so download was considerably slower. So how can a much smaller update take 1.5hours?

It's not downloading taking time (it took on my 1Gbs few minutes to dowlnoad patch).
Applying patch takes so long (it looks like it copying some game files and then patching that files so probally it just copy on one drive almost wohole game, patching, deleting all files, moving new patched files - just guesing).

Agree, the downloading is very quickly done. The worst part is that the launcher is using the disk at 100% meaning I can't use my computer for much else, cant play other games, watch movies or work because anything that requires the slightest amount of disk access will slow down to a crawl. Meaning I will have to let my computer on when I get to bed and let the ESO launcher spend it's hours doing its thing then while I sleep. Fantastic experience, thank you ZOS.

    rule number one:

    1. never download the patch the first day it launches, everyone is downloading it, so it is laggy, buggy

    two:
    2. in case of any trouble, in the launcher, options, repair launcher, then proceed with the download

I had similar issues today - not with download speed, but my update crashed and I had to run repair twice to finally get going.

During that time, my system (which is a new gaming rig) slowed to a crawl with similar disk and CPU spikes.

Once I got through the patch successfully everything returned to normal.

Downloading was no problem, it was only 2GB or something like that, took a minute or so to download. Tried the repair option, it does the same stupid crap again; somewhere in the process it seems to stop and harddisk usage goes to 100% constantly for more than an hour. This 100% disk usage makes it either impossible or very tiresome to use the computer for anything that involves disk access for all this time.

I see the same issue you see in your screenshot. "Applying Patch" and it's stuck at x% and the CPU is freaking out. Every open window and CPU task freezes, the entire PC just locks up. It has happened to me the past 4 big updates, and only one of those times could i get REPAIR to work. Each time this happens I'll try repairing the game a dozen times at least but it doesn't work. I've downloaded this whole game 3 times because of this problem and now I'm on my fourth complete redownload tonight.

EDIT: PS I have a SSD hard drive that's screaming fast .. . usually

I recommend restarting the launcher if it complains.
it tend to be launcher who messes up.

Never had any issues before, might be that I repaired rater than restarted the stupid launcher.

Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

dang... my cpu actually is not seeing any load, it's the disk usage that is constantly at 100% meaning the launcher almost monopolizes all disk access on the computer. So any other program requiring disk access is slowed down to a crawl. But I actually had my launcher try to repair the game over night and for all these hours (7 hours) *** was just frozen at 56% (for some reason that is where the launcher freezes everytime when trying to repair). It never completes. The weird part is now that something must have happened with the update, because now I can't update anymore, there's just a play button, as if the update has been installed. However the game crashes when clicking "play" on character screen. I probably will have to do a complete reinstalll... yay.... :s

At the end of the day, this launcher is just FUBAR. Can't tell you how many issues I have had with it. Complete reinstalls, stopping downloads because of "missing files", endless redownload cycle, making random copies of the game, and the list goes on an on. It honestly is the worst application I have ever seen.

Deleting the following files prompted the launcher to redo the update. It had it download >50GB but at least it solved the issue entirely.
