Why is the ESO community against nerfs?

I understand that certain nerfs are necessary, and for a variety of situations and reasons.

I also feel that some level of power creep is necessary in MMO's, because that power creep is what helps the Player feel as if their Character is indeed growing and becoming more powerful over time. That is, in a nutshell, the entire point of an MMORPG.

Minor nerfs help to tweak items, armor, weapons, etc.; all in the effort to keep power creep under control so that it doesn't run rampant and get out of hand.

But Zeni has a history of broad, sweeping changes through nerfs, and many of the consequences do not seem to be clearly thought out when one looks at the changes and how they affect the game.

Many of their changes in the past were so broad, so sweeping, and changed numbers so drastically; that many Players woke up the day after an Update was downloaded, and rather than feeling as if their Character was still growing, progressing forward, and growing more powerful; they found that their Character feels much weaker than the previous day, almost as if they had regressed to a weaker level.

It's these broad, sweeping changes and nerfs (often to fix a small, specific issue) that cause the Community in ESO to become tentative and quite a bit squeamish when Zenimax announces that changes are incoming with the next Update.

We have no idea what Classes/Items/Gear/Skills are going to be hit with a nerf meteor, and so everyone tends to keep a wary, stressful eye on their beloved Characters, because we never know from Update to Update, who is going to get hit, and how bad the weakening will be.

Over a long enough timeline (like the 3+ years of ESO Updates), Players see this Update-behavior repeating again and again, and all it does is foster mistrust with the Developer whenever the latter announces an Update/Change in regard to the former.

Again, nerfs to keep power creep to a steady rate are good. Nerfs to fix a glaring flaw in a game feature that may be overpowered, is good when tailored specifically to that issue.

But the broad, generalized nerfs and updates that Zenimax uses, typically seem very overbearing, and almost viciously harsh to many areas when only one specific area of the game needed the change.

i did not read the whole thread, so maybe my point is moot or already was mentioned.
i think one of the problems with nerfs is, that it doesn't just hit the numbers. often, nerfs also change mechanics/abilities in a way, that nerfs the fun out of them, makes ability shallow, because shallow is easier to balance.
i think you have to keep in mind that a balanced but shallow game does not appeal to a lot of people.
balance is good, and i really want a healthy balance in the game.
if it does come at the cost of all the fun, it's becoming problematic.

Hmmmm, no nerfs that made the game better?.... rememeber perma rolling, perma streaking, block with regen.

People complain about shields, but they missed 20 sec uptime. How about crits on procs? You had people killing tanks with one rotation.

BOL was/is pretty mindless and making placement a requirment is a good thing. Oh malubeth, how about ult regen or vicious death proxy det?

I wish they would do smaller nerfs first but there is a huge list of great nerfs.

Bad nerfs bad. Blanket stat reduction, or effect removal adds up to dead builds without fixing the issues they originally meant to. Take wrath. Does the super tanky healy HA build still exist. Yes. The player stacking all those effects remains strong, 200wp/sp isn't much, but the player without loses an important 200sp/wp due to their low other damage sources

I go to the gym every day to get weaker and less fit. I thought you would disagree with me. I say the more power creep the better. I play, level undaunted and farm the gear to get stronger.... not get silly nerfs.
Sorcerna, proud beta sorc. RIP April 2014 to May 31 2016 DArk Brotherhood. Out of retirement for negates and encases. Sorcerna will be going back into retirement to be my main crafter Fall 2018. Because to them, the game is their sport and they want to remain the best. If things are nerfed and more of the player base can join in their special snowflake place will be at risk.

My biggest issue with nerfs in this game is when it comes to gear. Mainly because of jewelry. You could wait a year or more for the jewelry of your choice to show up as gold and then you have to drop 750k gold on the set (or a lot of pvp points) and then if that set gets over nerfed you're looking to do that all over again. And it's not reasonable for the average person to just pick up potentials every time they pop up. It's too expensive.

If we could upgrade jewelry to gold like everything else I would have no problem with how they handle nerfing things.
