It seems like 75% of the post on here are nothing more than [snip] fests. Everyones complaning about something....lousy drop rates, lousy quest rewards, writs, crown crates, crown cost, lag, crashes, how much the devs suck, zos needs to do this, zos needs to do that, zos doesnt care about the customer, blah, blah, blah....and on and on. It never ends. You paid $50-$60, probably less, for a game that is FREE to play, that offers you literally, years of entertainment. To me, thats great value for the money. Compare that to most games that you play through once, maybe twice in a few months, never to be played again.
Play the game and enjoy it for what it is, or just quit. But please for all that is holy, STFU.

    [Edited to remove profanity]

I agree with you that this game has great value.

I've been playing since beta and still haven't finished all the content in the base game.

But the forums are a place for people to air their grievances about the game. If this bothers you - I recommend that you just stay way from the forums. Because telling everyone who is complaining here just to shut up or quit the game isn't likely to net you a productive response. ^^

For about the seven millionth time, I'll point out something that's so blindingly obvious that I really doubt anyone actually doesn't already know it and just makes posts like the OP's because it makes them feel superior:

If we didn't love the game, we wouldn't have anything to complain about. We simply wouldn't play. If we're happy with something in game, there's little reason to discuss it on the forum. The forum is here to discuss the game, and there's just more to discuss with talking about improvements than there is when talking about how great everything is.

    --

The main reason, at least for me, why I can get a little too irritated at some times: ZOS makes brilliant decisions. ZOS makes shockingly stupid decisions. It sometimes seems like there's little middle ground.

The grindy crap, the horrible drop rates, etc. are decisions that show a fundamental idea that the player's time is not a valuable thing, and when you show you do not respect a person's time, you show you don't respect the person. These mechanics are things good designers (and, honestly, good people) simply wouldn't do, but ZOS are plainly capable of great design. It's a very difficult contradiction to reconcile, and sometime the only way to make sense of it is to go personal.

I genuinely believe there are two camps at ZOS, and I want the ones who value good design and have enough of a conscience to treat our time as if it's valuable to win.

    @Ch4mpTW

Hello my friend ! I love ESO but as others say have started to do something else and do not want to constantly complain about things that are never addressed by ZoS . It's not fair to the players that enjoy the game to always be critical . So I found a way to still have fun and let ZoS do what they like . The people here are the best and nicest friends anyone could ever want and the main reason so many wait for improvement . I'll never make a goodbye post ever because I'll always hold out hope for this game to get some improvements . I'll never bash ZoS for their decisions , I'll just find what makes me happy until somethings happen that give a incentive to jump back in, when if that happens . No worries if it doesn't . Whining about people whining just creates a möbius loop of whining so best to leave a positive comment and best wishes and hopes for everyone wishing for improvement in communications and game issues here . Positive thoughts for all of you !

We really need more Rohamads in this world ;o

Why indeed am I salty? Maybe because I played ESO ps4 since launch. Then changed my IRL to the point where I used much of my life expectancy to be able to play ESO everyday for 10hrs (working for 9hrs this only sleeping for 3 to 4 hrs per day everyday). Then watching the LAG increase with every update to the point where we are now= unplayable.

So the self realization that I committed to much into ESO and its all in vain really makes me salty...

At least I wont have to live much longer with the regret that I f'd up my life for that which I loved the most only to realize that I never considered such an increase in LAG. It truly PlSSES me off that I exchanged my life expectancy for LAG, yeah I must be the greatest idiot ever...

We long term players get salty when it's obvious we aren't being listened to. Since LAUNCH players have wanted a way to disable the vampire skin overlay... and even though Paul Sage said in a livestream "Well maybe something with costumes..." way back when... still nothing even though the requests keep pouring in from players. Players willing to PAY for the privilege even.

We told them the player caps were far too small in player housing. They've done nothing nor even talked to us about it since release when we were all unpleasantly surprised.

We told them we wanted guild houses. We told them that BEFORE player housing was released. Zip.

We told them NOT to make the cash store like SWTOR's and we told them we DID NOT want gamble boxes... ESPECIALLY gamble boxes with exclusive items. They hired the person who designed SWTOR's store and... gave us gamble boxes with exclusive items.

And that's just on the "vanity" side of things.

They do nothing about player harassment in game. Game Maters NEVER show up no matter how many players report someone trolling an event anymore.

And then there's lag... crashing... constant nerfs... Yeah, players have plenty to BE salty about. Hence the salt.

The vast majority of it was started by the folks from the Angry Joe channel.

Joe has this obsessive fetish with Skyrim, as soon as he found out that there wasn't going to be endless skyrim he ordered his flying Monkeys to start a hate campaign on the forums.

Also The Community managers are really permissive about allowing non constructive post,( I don't mean critical I mean Non Constructive) and very heavy handed towards people who enjoy the game and voice dissent against the continual stream of negativity and hate.

Think of it as the exact opposite of how GW2 and FFXIV runs their forums.

It's not going to change but there are some really good fan forums out there, that are much better than the official ones.

Now I'm off to go work out because I know that my workout bench isn't going to lag out mid rep and my gym fixes broken equipment in less than three years. My gym membership is actually worth the money and isn't going to change it's business model to "free to work out" and then destroy the quality of the gym and make me gamble for boxes of protein shake. Every other membership, item, or service I purchase has a team behind it that cares about me as a customer. Except for this dumpster fire. This is the forum we deserve for the game that doesn't deserve any of us. Even the ones I always argue with. I love all of you guys, but you gotta take breaks once in a while between salt sessions.

    cheers.

Better example than any of mine.

What's the a basic difference between an MMO and a non-MMO?

Even if there are similar games to enjoy on the market, which is not likely since ESO is a well loved and unique franchise, MMO's cater to builder personalities. Your not just switching games, your leaving behind all the time you invested in the game with the prospect of starting at ground zero in the new MMO. Starting at ground zero means a time sink even if the alternative just launched. If it has been around for a while, you face months or even years just to catch up. I have multiple accounts and started one after the CP system and let me tell you ... the CP grind is real.

As to OP's comparison, people aren't going to play the base game more than once or twice, any more than they are going to play a non-MMO more than once or twice. If that were true, continuous content releases wouldn't be a thing. In ESO, you can pay for each content release, one every 3 months. Alternatively, you can pay a subscription which will come to what, $150-$180 a year? As of Morrowind, even if you cough up the $150 bucks a year, you are still going to have to cough up another ~$40 for the "chapter."

Let's say you are the type of person that does enjoy the same content over and over again. You don't have to subscribe, but the game will be not be entertainment anymore, it will become a painful chore and separate you from playing with people you meet and like online. Let's take the subscription bag space "perks" as an example. Oh, people aren't subscribing? Let me add 5000 more crafting ingredients and 40 new armor sets available to base game players. Let me add more motifs than ever seen in any game, and let's make furniture an inventory item, and... Oh, and by the way, so sorry that half your friends bought access or subscribed, and now you can't play with them in the new dungeons or in imperial city, maybe you should reconsider?

People aren't buying from the crown store? Hey, no worries, you can buy from a guild trader, if non-cosmetic. Oh, and I created this awesomely fun master writ system for the base game. You need specific motifs to participate in it though. I've released these two motifs, and made half of the big voucher writs require those motifs. Hey, hey now, don't get upset, you don't have to pay $40 for each motif off the crown store, you can just slap down 250,000 gold per page and buy them from the guild traders or farm for 8 hours on average per page.

    [Edited to remove profanity]

It has nothing to do with anything you said.

Its mostly popularity and peer pressure. Players see personalities on youtube and twitch and other similar services and notice the ones who complain the most get all the attention. Regular news broadcasts have been like this for decades. The bad news gets the views, good news doesn't.

Its an attempt to get on that bandwagon. To hate on ZOS, to accuse them of trickery of dangling a wonderful franchise in front of them to greedily profit is the 'popular' stance. And why not? ZOS is a big business. They are the bane and evil that pervades the world. How dare they take something as beautiful as Elder Scrolls and profit off of us like we're some hapless addicts?

So they cannot show enjoyment of the game. It came from ZOS, a big company. To show agreement or enjoyment is supporting them. Instead they need to complain instead. If they could only get away from their addiction, they could be free of their greedy hands.

Little bit of a fun exaggeration, but you get the point.

I've said before, if Electronic Arts released the next Mass Effect game, right now, today. In whatever buggy incomplete pre-alpha and pre-feature state it is in. They'd make millions. Players would flock to it. Why not? Its Mass Effect. A beloved franchise. But more importantly. They would be able to complain, and rightfully so, I guess. It wouldn't even be a game. But they'd be able to go on social media and complain and be seen complaining. Even if they knew what they were getting into.

Andromeda had that happen. You all are aware of the issues that game had. But why did it still sell after the buggy fiasco? Well everyone saw all the viewership these people got on social media and bought the game to get in on that. Polished, perfect games don't get the same publicity.

People play games not to enjoy them anymore. But to post about playing them on social media for attention and fake internet points. Well not all of them, but the more vocal ones.

Its easy to spot, when they complain in a cynical nature towards the development team, then its a big red flag that its only a stunt for attention. Think about it. When they call a coding dev greedy, who's not part of marketing or finance. That's either dishonesty or naivety.
