The biggest difference character wise is we now go all in on one attribute, so Magic or Stamina. Hybrids are out for the most part.
While rolling a new character can be good, don't delete the existing one, you can always respec them later and work with them.
Hello! I LOVED this game at release, I've always been a fan of the single player games. I played for a few months, then as often happens, life got busy etc. I'd like to try the game again but SO much has changed it's overwhelming to know where to start. Any tips? I enjoy roleplaying and casual exploration.
Thanks

And yet here you are, playing the game and crying.
"Haven't played since release - tips?"
Don't. Performance is awful and customer service doesn't exist. Save yourself while you still can.

This is true.
However what baffles me is, if you dislike a game enough to tell new players not to play it, why waste you time on it or the forums?

Start a new character, stick to one alliance area until you've completed the zones for that alliance, and take your time. Those would be my tips. Also, ignore all complaints or warnings about negative changes, failed this or broken that - some are set in their ways and can't adapt to an evolving game but you'll be fine and you'll pick up any changes as you go always assuming that you notice them. The main thing is to be aware of One Tamriel and the changes that came with that.
Welcome back!
Last question, beyond the obvious rp reasons, is there a better alliance to play though, one that's more fun or challenging? I explored bleakrock isle yesterday and had a really bad case of deja vu

Thanks Tandor! All great advice. Nice to 'meet' you. My playtime is limited (young kids) so yes I doubt I'll ever see endgame which is fine by me.
Well, now the alliance doesn't matter that much since starting with One Tamriel a year ago you can do the quests in any order. You can visit any alliance zone or DLC area at any level, since they automatically scale with you. Alliance only matters if you want to PvP and have friends that play a certain alliance. But if you stick more to questing and PvE in general it really doesn't matter.
