    its called cupping https://www.webmd.com/balance/guide/cupping-therapy#1

growing up in eastern Europe, I actualy had it done to me as a child, with small glass jars no clue if it actualy helped, I can only remember it being done once. its .....weird...

and as per rule 34 - sexy versions of it indeed exist and are fairly popular.

For me, born and growing up and living in Eastern Europe now, it helped a lot in times when good medicines were rarely acessible.

These Indonesians probably were poor to us some dirty animal horns instead of clean glass jars. That was one of the most efficient way to heal cold. 15 minutes keep them on the back while warming up under quilt, then remove and feel great :).

my parents did use it for the cold, I think I remember that much. they switched to mustard covered strips instead. I was too young to remember why so something might have gone wrong or something, maybe i bruised a lot? (I still bruise easily, so that's not out of the realm of possibility) mustard strips did help with the cough part of the cold for sure.

that said, I kinda have a feeling that choice of horns is not due to poverty. horns tend to have a lot of medical significance in east asia, whether ground up or otherwise, so I think that particular choice was significant, rather then "have to use what's on hand" they didn't look dirty either.
