Call me crazy, but I feel like Ebonheart should be the hub of the EP. and Daggerfall should be the hub of DC. I get there's no, Aldmeri city...but still. Flip the statues over, add a bank, c'mon. The cities that keep our namesake should be our hubs.
Not rallying the people because I agree that Wayrest>Daggerfall, Mournhold>Ebonheart...but ZOS should do some flipping around to get things a little cleaner. IMO

Mournhold is the capital of Morrowind and the home of Almalexia, so that choice makes sense. Plus, Mournhold was the site of the Tribunal DLC from TES Morrowind.
The capital of Valenwood would be Falinesti, but the graht-oak's wandering nature and the fact that it has gotten...lost, means it isn't suitable for the capital. Nevertheless, Eldenroot has been an important location in TES: Arena where the Eternal Champion must go in order to find one of the pieces of the Staff of Chaos. http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Arena:Elden_Grove
If you wanted an Altmer city to be the capital, you'd have to bring in the main island in the Summerset Isles. Even then, they don't have a particular city marked out as a capital, more like a bunch of city-states. I happen to think that Crystal-Like-Law would be amazing to see, but very difficult to do justice to. If you absolutely had to pick a capitcal city on Auridon, it would be Firsthold...which would requirethe Veiled Queen not summoning daedra to reenact the Oblivion Crisis centuries ahead of schedule in the largest city on the island.
Wayrest probably got top billing because it plays a major role in TES Daggerfall in addition to several other kingdoms in High Rock. Daggerfall makes for a good introductory zone.

Daggerfall is already fairly decent trading hub.
I would suggest to move all the guild traders from Ebonheart to Davon's Watch and move the Skywatch traders to Vukhel Guard. Then these two starting towns will become decent trading spots as well.0 -

Next you will demand that the united states of america switch their capital to the site of the first colony or something... or build a new capital city at the spot where Amerigo Vespucci made landfall to check out his theories that these lands were not asia but a continent noone in europe knew of henceforth be known as "amerricas"... (nota, as far as I recall, he did so in -south- america, so...)
Or complain that the "major city" and control center of the whole warshaw pact had not been warshaw, but kinda moscow...
For Tamriel, it even makes more sense - its the ebonheart pact because that's where it was signed, after the last big battle against the akaviri where it was the closest city... (though as we know from the future, the city itself will either move or at least be copied by vivec...) while the daggerfall covenant took its name from the first daggerfall covenant, which had indeed been a alliance between breton city-states, but is centered on wayrest ebcause it was only possible to draw the redguards and orcs into it due to then-king emrics political machinations (the name being a manipulation to sell the whole idea to the other breton kings, draw upon the traditions and alliances of the first daggerfall covenant)
...though I would like to see Ebonheart gain at least a bank!1 -

You don't want hubs that everyone goes to or you'll get into an endless load screen when you try to port there.0 -
