A Lament

Dear ESO...

This isn't a farewell. Not yet, anyway.

I loved you for the longest time; far longer than I loved any other game. I came back to you after Fallout 4. But your charms are fading now.

You see, I've completed almost all the soloable content. I have most of the soloable achievement points (apart from PVP, a few Justice, DLC Fishing and a couple of the Exploration ones). The only other ones left are Vet achievements, which I will not PUG. Many of my friends/ guildies have already departed. I cannot play in Vivec and the small campaigns are mostly dead on my faction. Plus I suck at PVP anyway.

A large part of my growing disillusionment is to do with what's known as Australia's Potato Internet. I have this awful condition, and I have no way to cure it until at least the first half of 2019 - and even then it may not be an improvement at all. (Quite the opposite, if the large number of reports are to be believed.) As a result, I cannot complete VMA. I cannot partake in vet Trials. I'm not even going near normal HoF. All of the above and the DLC dungeons require me to "git gud", except said Potato Internet precludes that. Even the upcoming retraiting holds little interest for me now - because what would be the point? I'm not going to grind for Gems when all I'll end up doing is writs and even more pickpocketing for motifs.

So I'm sorry, ESO. Other, brighter shores beckon. I shall come visit, from time to time.

Okinawa Japan - NTT DoCoMo has Poor Interwebs as well. They throttle my connection down during prime time hours. I can't bar swap most of the time, and animation cancelling . . . well just forget that.

I guess it means I will never be able to do content that requires higher DPS than I can produce without animation cancelling. I am glad a few people enjoy the more difficult content, but I cannot enjoy the game being more difficult thanks in part to my internet, and poor coordination.

I think even more than anything, I just want to WANT to play ESO, but I just can't. I login. . . and do nothing, look at the house, play with the costumes, get depressed.

I honestly dont know what to expect from ESO anymore. I think I wanted Skyrim with friends in a mMO (minimal Multiplayer Online) ya know, just a few friends to see the houses and share a few adventures with. Not the crowds of people with differing play styles I will never be able to compete with.

Sad to hear this from yet another aussie and its not a uncommon story (just that most just leave to go back to wow, gw2 or other mmos/games silently. where we can still be competitive even with our potato internet)
Unfortunately its not uncommon for aussies and kiwis to be boomerang players. They miss the content eso provides (which can be actually pretty good), but when they return they remember why they left, the lag.
The question im always asked by returning aussies is "hows the lag" or "have they fixed the lag yet". To bad my response hasnt changed in the last 18 months.

ESO needs an Oceanic server like WOW has/had. I would drop all my NA / EU characters for a chance to play this game how it was meant to be played.

Server/data center or what ever that makes it smoother for their games over in this part of the world.

And so would I... Former Empress, Master Angler, Master Crafter and everything else.

the correct answer to this question is has the earth changed shape since i last played? since most of our ping is physics, not lag. you can argue its the same thing but people do not refer to lag as their ping. its the extra bit of ping beyond what physics demands.

But its sad thats the first question asked, not "whats new" or "whats the bis for x class".
The world has not changed shape but why in gw2 i personally get ping around 100-150 but eso 250+? servers are the same distance away?

Well the game is obviously growing even as other titles are seeing sharp declines in their populations....maybe it is time they considered an Oceanic megasever

After reading the article about the NBN, I'm not sure it would help much to have a Oceanic megaserver. It doesn't do much good if the internet infrastructure of your country is poorly mismanaged. And I wonder how much of a customer base ZOS actually has in Australia, Japan, New Zealand, and the rest of Oceania? I would think if it was large enough, they would have put a megaserver online by now.

I agree. And I think there are two chances we'd get an Oceanic server: Buckley's & None.
Just makes me sad that due to both ZoS and my stupid government I can never participate in end-game content.

NA ain't no picnic forPvP'ers performance wise no matter where you play from.
