Even his ancestrors work for Ayleids then switch to Alessians when they get power, and his descendant Jagar Tarn make even more trubles.

Abner Tharn is the most grossly misunderstood hero of the Five Companions whose actions clearly illustrate his motives and loyalty in a complex and difficult time. The fact is, he doesn't paint pretty pictures with his words, doesn't take [snip] from his peers, and constantly points out the error of their thinking, giving cold, harsh wisdom when they don't want to listen. He is willing to do what must be done, and the character is masterfully voice-acted by Alfred Molina. The nuances in his performance can betray his innermost feelings at various parts in the main Vestige narrative.
