The spell / weapon damage & magicka / stamina axis

Generally speaking, what is the "sweet spot" when it comes to setting up your toons. I've seen a lot of ~42k attribute and around 2.5k spell or weapon damage.

I'm pretty certain the answer is: It depends but I thought I would get some feedback.

Call me crazy, but maybe the weapon attack has more prominence now due to sustain concerns?

    One approach for PvE:
    Penetration to 9,1k.
Crit rate until it equalizes your crit dmg.
Spell-/Weapon dmg in the leftover slots.

    What does that mean.

your base critical dmg is 50%, your base crit rate is 5%, u can "easily" boost crit dmg by cp (up to 25%), class passives (+10%) and minor/major force (+10%/+15%), minor force comes from twilight remedy, guard or beasttrap, major from warhorn.
Theoretically, u can stack your crit dmg up to 122% (including shadow mundus), or reasonably to 70%~80%.

Crit rate and crit dmg r at an optimum, when both values r equal. So the "harder" part, is getting your critical rating up.

As of hotr, you'll generally find that Magicka builds are 40k~ mag and 2500~ spell damage unbuffed just food. Spell crit is usually around 45-50%. This is assuming Breton, high elf, or dunmer, with a 5-1-1 undaunted setup. Apprentice or lover mundus.

Stamina I think is around 36k stamina and 3200 weapon dmg for most setups unbuffed. Stamina crit is usually around 60%. This is assuming redguard, lover or warrior mundus, 7 med or 6-1.

Not sure if these are exactly representative but this is what I usually see from builds.

As far as crit vs crit dmg, the only time you should care about this is when deciding between thief or shadow, neither of which are good this patch, so I wouldn't recommend even thinking about it. Check out asayres pve damage calculation for more in-depth discussion on the mathematics of pve damage. It's on Tamriel Foundry and covers anything you need to know about dps.

For Heavy armor 5 piece and 2 medium you want at least 35k max stamina and 3k weapon damage and 40% crit. For 5 medium 2 heavy stamina you could easily hit 39-40k stamina 3.5k weapon damage and 50% crit. This is average for my pvp 660cp stamplar in all impen gear. I'm not sure about magic because I haven't played it much

The easiest way to deal with this question is to use the ratio 10.5:1
Let's say a player can build their character with 50k magicka and 2k spell damage with one setup and 40k magicka and 3k spell damage in another setup. By dividing the spell damage by 10.5 you get a common number to compare:

    50000 / 10.5 = 4762 + 2000 = 6762
    40000 / 10.5 = 3809 + 3000 = 6809

So you can plug in your own values to see how they stack up. You'd usually want a combined number around or above 6500 in PvE.

If you go to the UESP Build Editor website you can make a build and view it's Effective Spell Power, which is a stat that combines max magicka, spell damage, crit chance, crit damage, penetration, and additional damage done all together into one number. I've used this system in a number of my dps set comparison threads.

If that's the case then add *do not try and sell your level 16 purple in /z* to the top.
