Playing races in multiple factions

Are there any drawbacks to this? I'm not too terribly concerned with the RP aspect of sticking to one faction as I enjoy playing multiple classes and would like to mix and match a bit. I know that when you join a guild, all characters are in that guild (or so I assume) and I'm wondering if there could be any issues that arise from that by joining guilds in multiple factions.

Apologies if this is a silly question!

I have characters in all factions and of most races.

There are a few guilds that are strictly faction based but all of my 5 guilds are cross-faction and have no problem with people who have characters in multiple factions.

I wasn't even aware that you can have multiple factions in the same guild. How does that work exactly? Are we able to communicate with the opposing faction? I suppose I never noticed if zones are faction specific (i.e. Horde/Alliance in WoW). Still new to the game and trying to learn all of the intricacies.

Once you join a guild, all guild members can chat in the guild chat, regardless of faction.

In Cyrodiil, you only see chat messages in the normal zone chat that are from people in your faction, but again, your guild chat channel is uneffected.

It used to be only your own faction in the pve zones and when you did dungeons etc but it changed with one tamriel so now faction choice only matter in pvp.

Faction choice only matters in Cyrodiil, even in battlegrounds you can group up with people from different alliances.

Factions are only relevant in Cyrodiil (and Imperial City). Elsewhere it's completely irrelevant, all players can play together doing quest/delves/dungeons in PVE-land without no drawbacks related to their faction.

As has been said, the factions only determine on what side you fight in PvP at this point. Well, and where you start your adventuring, but since you can go anywhere and do all the quests (and will, eventually, if only to grab all those skill points that come with completing storyline quests) that does not matter all that much in the end...

Used to be more segregated, but ever since "One Tamriel" all regions are mixed for all characters. So you can group to quest with friends/guildmates, do dungeons or world bosses or whatever without regard to what alliance who is - except in PvP.

Some choose to make only characters in their "favorite" faction (and let's be honest, it is understandable, since the pact is indeed the best of all factions... :p ), while others have characters in every corner, and others still are somewhere in between, having their "main" characters in one alliance, but alts in the others as well... each as they please!

And yes, guild membership is account wide, not character specific. No big, since as mentioned, its only important in PvP... and you can always switch characters for that. So, if your favorite guild says "We're gonna all go PvP in that campaign on covenant side" you can see the message on your AD character, and easily switch to your DC PvP-character and follow your friends... or play "spy" for them on the AD side (though that would be quite dishonorable behavoir! Not unexpected from dominion scum, but dishonorable! :p;) )
